Starting a Young Author’s Club in the Elementary School

Before First Meeting:

Outline your objectives for the club.

Provide encouragement, feedback, and guidance.

Seek permission from your principal or building supervisor.

Secure a location for a meeting.

How many students? Is there a viable area to work?

Obtain funding for necessities such as after school snacks and materials.

Acquire other teachers, assistants, or parents as support during each meeting.

Begin student selection and/or invitation process.

Plan meeting dates & time for the year. Will you meet weekly or monthly?

How long will each meeting be?

Gather permission forms for all students.

Develop a plan for components of each club meeting.
