STATE TECHNOLOGY PLAN

DRAFT GOAL DEVELOPMENT

The five goals of the 2010 Plan are:

1. Teaching for Learning: Michigan students will have meaningful technology-enabledlearning opportunities, including assistive technologies and virtual learningopportunities that develop proficiencies as defined by the Partnership for 21stCentury Skills (21stcenturyskills.org), required to become lifelong learners, includingethical, safe, and discerning behavior while using information and media technology.

2. Leadership: Michigan Department of Education (MDE) will continue to provideleadership for educational technology by expanding and developing transformativelearning environments that increase student academic achievement.

3. Professional Learning: Michigan educators will have competencies in 21st CenturySkills, especially information and media fluency, to enable the transformation ofteaching and learning to improve student achievement.

4. School and Community Relations: Michigan school board members, parents, andcommunity members will understand the impact educational technology, includingvirtual learning options and data have on informing and improving instruction.Schools, parents, and community members will be able to access and use school leveldata to make meaningful decisions related to the education of all Michiganchildren.

5. Data and Information Management: Michigan educators will have access to datafor effective classroom decision making and school improvement planning throughan integrated local and statewide decision support system, and have access toprofessional learning opportunities to develop competencies in data-driven decisionmaking.
