• Mission:  “To foster the development of sustainable communities that contribute to the economic, social and environmental health and well‐being of its people for generations to come”.

• Purpose:  • To provide various tools and programs available to assist communities nurture and grow entrepreneurs

• Provide opportunities for communities to learn and share best practices

• To bring together other partner groups and organizations with resources to assist communities in this endeavor

• To build “an army” of communities that are excited about entrepreneurship; can see the value entrepreneurs have in moving Michigan’s economy forward; and provide those communities with the tools to help entrepreneurs at a local level

• Target Audience:• Local teams made up of a wide variety of leaders, stakeholders, decision makers, entrepreneurs and community champions.  We will encourage communities to recruit and send teams to the conference   

• We have learned that sustaining enthusiasm gained from this event will be easier to maintain if there are several key people in the community with this mindset rather than just one person.

• Team make‐up:  Could/should be four‐six people representing (but not limited to)

• Local government• Business Community (Chamber of Commerce, DDA, Main Street, etc.)

• Education• Economic/Community Development (EDO, EDC, Community Foundation, etc.)

2015 Attendee Demographics

• 194 individuals including 10 people from Indiana and 5 people from Wisconsin attended a CEC conference. (Two locations offered)

• Houghton/Hancock had a total of 84 attendees and 110 attended the event in Sturgis. 

• Combined, the participants represented 39 counties and 64 communities in Michigan with 99 identifying themselves as male and 95 as female.   

• When asked what sector the participants represented, their responses were as follows (N=97):

• 21.87% Education

• 18.55  Government Services

• 16.49% Economic Development

• 14.43 Non‐profit Organization

• 12.37% Entrepreneur or Business Owner

• 11.34%  Other (identified themselves in banking, DDA, 4‐H, health care, planner, and University Extension)

• 3.09%   Arts and Culture

• 2.06% Agriculture

1. Helping communities recognize the importance and impact entrepreneurs do (and can) make in your community.

2. Providing training for various tools and resources your community can provide to assist entrepreneurs grow in your community.

3. Connect you with other communities to share success stories, best practices and resources to help entrepreneurs grow.
