5. CMldreii were housed in the “Mansioii House” and tkeie was ipproxiniately 24 boys in

the Mansioii House at any one tame after the new buildmg. Then was also another

Ijuilfliiig wMcli cotttanied three Ijedrooms consisting of 4 licA in two units = 24 boys.

6. Brigaier Lawler was the officcr in chaige of the boys’ home. He was isspoiisiMe for

aAninlstering discipline and carrying out most of the piinislinneTtt Whene¥er

punishnien.t wis admmistered to a boy Brigadier Lawler required a witness.

7. I recall Graham Rundle. He worked on the Brigadier’s cottage. Only privileged boys

were entitled to woric on the Brigadier’s cottage, that is boys who could be trusted.

Graham Rundle was a pleasant type ofboy, and definitely not a trouble maker.

8. Keith Ellis was employed by the home whilst I was there, in about 1962-1963. He had

previously worked locally for a shoe manufacturer wMch had closed down. He was

responsible for supervising the site and the boys. I recall that Keith E lis would now be

in his late sixties having been bom on I January 1931.

9. I have had details of Giahani Eundle’s statement read to me and leply as follows.

10. I do not recal any boys ever making any eomplaiiits to me or to my wife about either

physical or sexual abuse.

11. The storeroom was used by Brigadier Lawler to restrain boys mainly aboriginal toys

who were disturtied and aggressive m il they cooled down, who had absconded. I do

not agree that boys would have been kept for 3 days in the lochip or even overnight

They were also not refiised food whilst they were in the storaroom.

12. I do not accept fliat Keith Ellis was left in charge at Christmas time. This did not

happsn.

13. Keith Ellis lived in the "Mansion House', in the tower. My wife and I lived in the

Mansion House in the staff quarters on the first floor under the tower for first 2 or 3

years of our time at &ten Parle. After that we were moved to a detached house separate

from the main building.

14. I recall that when visitors came to the home they were provided afternoon tea and food.

Any leftovers were provided to the children. I deny that the boys at the home were

given new blankets and new clothes to wear which were taken back once the visitors

left.

15. Of the boys refened to by Graham Rundle I state as follows:

(i) REDACTED he was a severe asthmatic, and emotionally disturbed

because as I recall he witnessed his mother commit suicide;

REDACTED (ii) I recall he was a bossy part aboriginal boy;

(iii) ';Je•f ¢11$•1 I believe that he was a "con man" "Aborigine".

(iv) lila•fM 1 do not recall this boy;

REDACTED {v) he was a tall aboriginal boy who would abscond or run away a

lot, until he settled down then no 1rouble.
