• In 1979, ITC entered the Paperboards business by promoting ITC Bhadrachalam Paperboards Limited, which today has become the market leader in India.

• In 1990, ITC acquired Tribeni Tissues Limited, a Specialty paper manufacturing company and a major supplier of tissue paper to the cigarette industry. The merged entity was named the Tribeni Tissues Division (TTD). To harness strategic and operational synergies, TTD was merged with the Bhadrachalam Paperboards Division to form the Paperboards & Specialty Papers Division in November 2002.

• Bhadrachalam Paperboards amalgamated with the Company effective March 13, 2002 and became a Division of the Company, Bhadrachalam Paperboards Division. In 2004, ITC acquired the paperboard manufacturing facility of BILT Industrial Packaging Co. Ltd (BIPCO), near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

• ITC’s Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division is India’s largest and most technologically advanced paper and paperboards business.

• ITC caters to a wide spectrum of Packaging, Graphic, Writing, Printing and specialty paper requirements through its four world-class mills in India.

• It is also the largest Indian exporter of coated boards.

• ITC Eco Friendly Products:-

• ITC straddles the entire spectrum of paperboards – from 100% virgin, food-grade boards to 100 % recycled, eco-friendly boards.

• ITC is a front-runner in introducing environment-friendly Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) technology, and more recently, Ozone bleaching in India. ITC’s focus on being a carbon-positive, water-positive, zero-solid waste disposal organization leads it to constantly develop ways of reducing, reusing and recycling.

ITC Paperboards to recycle waste

• ITC Paperboards & Speciality Papers, an ITC group company, is on course to start an innovative paper recycling initiative at its new plant at Bhadrachalam in Andhra Pradesh. It has tied up with Satyam, Infosys, Wipro and GE for this initiative that entails picking up waste from schools, government offices and residential areas.

• ITC reaches out directly to consumers with its Wealth Out of Waste (WOW) campaign, that has been successfully implemented in select locations across central and southern India.

• ITC Paperboards currently produces around 4,35,000 tonnes of paper per annum.

• India generates more than 7 lakh tonnes of dry waste per annum of which 40% is paper. One tonne of waste paper raw material can generate an equivalent amount of recycled paper.

Greetings Cards Strategy

• The greetings cards business of ITC Ltd has launched 92 new SOS Children’s Villages of India greeting card designs for Diwali, Christmas and New Year.

• A new series of ‘Thank You’ cards was also launched. • The SOS cards were priced between Rs 6 and Rs 20 and

the desktop calendars at Rs 50. They would be available in 12,000 retail outlets spread over 600 cities.

• It also sold the Expressions range of greeting cards comprising over 10,000 designs.

• ITC made its entry into the stationery business in 2002 with its premium range of notebooks.

• These capabilities include Manufacturer of India's first environment friendly Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) pulp, paper and paperboard.

Classmate - India's largest National brand, reaching 50,000 outlets across the country, has over 300 variants in its range which comprises notebooks, long books, practical books, drawing books, scrap books, reminder pads etc.

A recent addition to the Classmate portfolio has been the Classmate Fun N Learn range of children books targeting pre school learners.

Every Classmate notebook carries ITC's Corporate Social Responsibility message on its back-cover. For every two Classmate Notebooks sold, ITC contributes Re. 1 to its rural development initiative that supports, among other projects, primary education in villages.

• In fact, most of its products for students are called Classmate and while its printer and copier paper is branded Paperkraft.

• The Classmate range is priced between Rs 10 and Rs 40• Classmate notebooks are made from ITC's superior eco-

friendly Elemental Chlorine Free paper. They are manufactured by small scale enterprises, supported by ITC's product development and marketing skills.

• Paper Mill of the Year 2005-06 Award to the Bhadrachalam paperboards mill by the Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA).

• The CII conferred the National Award for Excellence in Energy Management, Best Innovative Project Award and National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2006 to the Bhadrachalam Unit.

• National Award for Energy Conservation 2007 & 2006 to Unit Tribeni from the Ministry of Power & Non-conventional energy sources. 'Top Green Rating' in 2004 by the Centre for Science & Environment (CSE). The Bhadrachalam Unit was adjudged as India's most environment-friendly paper mill.

• Golden Peacock Award – 2003 – The World environmental foundation presents this award for the highest achievement in environmental management.
