Pete Visclosky has been a longtime, loyalfriend not only to steelworkers, but to allworking families in Northwest Indiana. Here are Pete’s views on the issues:

    Vote ViscloskyNovember 4

Jobs & The EconomyPete believes that a good job and strongeconomy are fundamental to improving thequality of life throughout Northwest Indi-ana and our country. In Congress, Pete hasworked to strengthen our economy and sup-port American workers by standing up tothe corporations that ship their good-pay-ing jobs to foreign countries. Pete hasauthored legislation that would not allowgovernment funding, such as grants andloans, to go to the companies that continueto outsource jobs. Pete believes the flow ofjobs overseas also puts downward pressureon the wage rate in our country, and he willcontinue to stand up for common-sensepolicies that put an emphasis on Americanjob creation. In Northwest Indiana, Pete has led the ef-fort to create new jobs, attract new busi-ness and develop new economic opportu-nities for everyone that lives and workshere. Recognizing the importance of diver-sifying our economy, Pete worked withPurdue University to secure $6.9 millionfor the construction of the Purdue Technol-ogy Center. Now open, this high-tech incu-bator houses companies involved in thecutting edge work that will help build a neweconomy in Northwest Indiana: industrieslike fuel-cell technology, life science phar-maceutical development, and national se-curity initiatives.Pete will continue to advance projects likethe Purdue Technology Center, which in-vests in our resources, leverages the tal-ented, hard working people who live inNorthwest Indiana, and keeps us focusedon the future.

Pensions & Social SecurityGrowing up in the Glen Park section ofGary, Pete remembers a time when peopleworked hard everyday with the knowledgethat they had a promise of a pension and asecure retirement. Pete believes our futuregenerations should have the same stability. That is why Pete favors acting now tostrengthen Social Security for the future.Unfortunately, too many companies havebacked out of the pensions that have beenpromised their workforce. Too many hard-working people and retirees have been leftto scramble to make ends meet. Pete be-lieves that in order to improve the privatepension system, we must make it more openand accountable, we must make it more dif-ficult for employers to dump the pensionpromises that they have made, and thatemployers should remain responsible forany pension losses a retiree or beneficiaryhas experienced, even after the companyuses the bankruptcy process to get rid of itspension responsibilities.

Health CarePete believes that every American shouldhave access to quality care, and thathealthcare must be reasonably affordable.Consider the fact that a staggering numberof Americans—more than 47 million—donot even have health insurance, and an es-timated 89.6 million people under the ageof 65 have been uninsured at some point inthe last two years. This crisis is about peopleand their wellbeing. In a country as rich as ours, seniors shouldnot have to be cutting pills in half. Parentsshould not be asked to make the choicebetween buying food for the week and tak-ing their kids to the doctors. And those whoneed critical care should not be turned awayfrom a hospital because they do not havehealth insurance. That is why we must worktogether and determine the best course of

action for our future. The people of North-west Indiana can count on Pete as he con-tinues to fight against rising healthcarecosts, battle confusing insurance programs, and to improve the health of citizens inNorthwest Indiana.

Energy IndependenceAmerica's dependence on foreign oil threat-ens our living standards, increases the riskof war in the most unstable parts of theworld, and accelerates environmental deg-radation. Both the public and private sec-tors must make it a priority to reduce thisdependence. Through his position on theEnergy and Water Appropriations Subcom-mittee, Pete has worked to secure more in-vestment in energy research, new energytechnology, as well as efficiency and con-servation initiatives.Pete also has worked to make the First Con-gressional District a leader in developingin developing energy alternatives. Workingacross party lines, Pete was able to secure$9.5 million for the construction of a bio-mass ethanol plant right here in NorthwestIndiana. This plant is now operational, cre-ating new markets for local producers, newjobs for area residents, and is a step in theright direction toward achieving robust en-ergy independence for our nation.

Let’s show Pete the support he hasshown us over the years:

    In Solidarity,

    Brothers and Sisters,

As we head into November, let’s not forget that this will be the most crucial election in our lifetime.

The last eight years have been the most disasterous in the history of the United States of America.President Bush inherited a record budget surplus when he took office, only to squander it awayon a war that was force-fed to Americans with lies and deception. His sucessor will inherit a record budgetdeficit that will take decades to pay down, on the backs of our children and grandchildren!

We have lost millions of good paying jobs due to unfair trade policies and tax breaks to corporationswho move offshore to use slave labor to make obsceneprofits, while gouging American consumers!

Now, we are bailing out Wall Street and corporateAmerica with almost a trillion dollars of taxpayermoney, when this crisis was created by theseunregulated high rollers with no thought orconcern for the average working American!

It is time for change in America, and four more yearsof bad policies will not bring this change. Vote for thecandidates who support working families.

    SUPPORT THOSE WHOSUPPORT US!

Vote Obama/Biden, Jill Long Thompson and Pete Visclosky.
