Biography

Noel McRobbie was born in Winnipeg, Canada and began piano studies at the age of 5. Noel has studies for many years with Prof. Lee Kum-Sing at the Vancouver Academy of Music and the University of British Columbia, where he received an Artist Diploma and Bachelor of Music respectively. He graduated with a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston studying with Patricia Zander. In addition, he completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Michigan where he studied piano with Arthur Greene. He has received top prizes at many competitions, including the Eckhardt-Grammatte Piano Competition for contemporary music, CBC Debut Concert Artists Series, Grand Konzerteum International Piano Competition, and Seiler International Piano Competition. He has performed with the Bulgarian Chamber Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Westcoast Symphony, and Jeonju Philharmonic Orchestra, and gave a solo recital presented by the Vancouver Chopin

Society. During his studies, he was selected as winner of the University of Michigan Concerto Competition, he gave a presentation at the 2008 Music Teachers National Association National Conference in Denver, and he was chosen to give a lecture-recital at the 2009 College Music Society Regional Conference. Recently, he was featured on KBS Television’s Classic Odyssey, and he performed a recital for the Asian Composers League-Korea conference at Sejong Chamber Hall. Noel McRobbie, who previously taught at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music, University of South Florida, and University of Michigan, is currently full-time instructor of piano at Dongduk Women’s University. Mai Fukasawa is a Japanese composer and pianist. Her compositions have been performed in Japan and Europe. She also has performed as a pianist and has received awards for both her compositions and her performances. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Mai earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition and completed a graduate course at the Toho Gakuen College of Music in Tokyo, after which she earned a distinction in a Master of Music in Composition from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. After moving to Boston, Mai was honored with a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music, where she continued her studies in the film scoring department. Mai was invited to the City of London Festival and her piece was broadcast on BBC Radio. She was awarded the Accomplished Musician Prize in the IBLA Composition Grand Prize and the golden prize in the Glanzen Piano Competition.
