STEP adopted for all F-16 Military Fighter Aircraft production re-bid activities

Recent major re-bid of F-16 machined parts:– Involved about 2300 part numbers and 50 potential suppliers– STEP provided 95% reduction in printing and reproduction

costs and 52% reduction in labor by the prime contractor, not including similar savings by the suppliers

Lockheed Martin plans to implement STEP across all new aircraft programs which use CAD (F-22, F-2, T-50, JSF, etc.) and at all sites in the consolidated Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company

STEP is being used in production for streamlined data exchange with suppliers

Boeing is using STEP on the Commercial Aircraft

Programs 777-300 Long Range (with General Electric) and 767X (with Rolls-Royce and the Engine Alliance) for the digital pre-assembly process

They are also using STEP to exchange C-17 Military Transport Aircraft configuration management data on a daily basis between their design facilities

STEP is being used in production at Boeing today

STEP is identified as The Boeing Company Standard for product data exchange.

Boeing will only consider purchase of products that comply with STEP.

It is Boeing’s intent that our partners and suppliers comply with STEP as a requirement for maintaining business with Boeing.

STEP comprises over 25% of IBM's globale-procurement design data exchange

STEP is currently in production use for the exchange of solid model design data with many external customers including:

Allied Signal Caterpillar

Atlas Casting U.S. Department of Defense

Avondale Industries Lunn Industries

Bath Iron Works (BIW) U.S. Navy Labs

BF Goodrich Newport News Shipbuilding

Boeing Northrop Grumman

Electric Boat uses STEP as their data exchange method of choice

STEP for Product Data Management (PDM) is enabling collaborative product development

On case-by-case basis Ford will continue to use STEP for CAD data exchange

Ford is planning to use STEP to harmonize CAD and PDM data exchange within Ford

Ford uses STEP as a core component in their application integration architecture

Currently exchanging geometry data via STEP for the A3XX commercial aircraft between Engine Alliance and Airbus

On the Joint Strike Fighter military program Pratt & Whitney is effectively using STEP to communicate geometric engine interface data with program partners (Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Rolls-Royce)

Pratt & Whitney is “STEP-ready” and recommends and encourages the use of STEP for communication of design information with customers

Pratt & Whitney is using STEP inaircraft engine production with Boeing

The Delphi Data Exchange Team has designated STEP as the strategic tool for their data exchange and data sharing vision

Unigraphics Solutions (UG) has been designated as a strategic technology for Delphi’s math based and global engineering systems

Since many Delphi customers require data in CATIA, SDRC, or Pro/E, production STEP translation occurs daily between: UG <=> CATIA, UG <=> SDRC/I-DEAS, and UG <=> Pro/E

STEP is used in production at Delphi to translate Customer Product Data

Eurofighter Typhoon is a four nation military program

implementing STEP for Product Data Management (PDM)Partners include BAE SYSTEMS, Alenia (Italy), and EADS --

European Aeronautic, Defense, and Space (consisting of CASA

from Spain and Daimler Chrysler Aerospace from Germany) Airbus Industrie partners are currently developing STEP

capability for CAD and PDM data exchange on the A3XX

commercial aircraft program

Currently implementing STEP on the Eurofighter Typhoon Project

Currently NASA is exchanging CAD models using STEP between SDRC Ideas, PTC ProEngineer, PTC ComputerVision, Solidworks, and AutoCAD

Planned uses of STEP include PDM, electronics design, thermal analysis, systems engineering, structural analysis, and machining

NASA’s long term vision is to develop a STEP infrastructure of services supporting end-to-end, interdisciplinary data integration and data reuse

The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

has adopted STEP for data exchange
