Principal Mr Laplante’s March Message
Dear Parents and Guardians
Since my arrival at ESAI I have been somewhat taken aback by the level of physicality displayed by some of our
students in solving conflicts. Early years students resort too often in pushing and hitting that often ends up in very
emotional outbursts. In the Middle years I have seen too many incidents of teasing, harassment that often ends in
shoving, pushing and tears. Although this is not unique to our school, I do not accept that it cannot be changed.
Starting tomorrow, my grade 1 and 2 teachers will be trained in a program called Zone of Regulations. This program
has proven to be very effective in helping early year students to monitor and control their emotions. For some of my
Middle Year students, I am initiating a group called The Circle of Courage. Students participating in this group will be
identified by myself and with the permission of their parents. We will have weekly meetings (food will be provided) to
discuss and learn assertiveness, positive conflict resolution strategies, etc. Parents can also help in this process by
talking with each other rather then pointing fingers. I understand the arena might be a great place to start modelling to
our children positive relationship and supporting each other with the challenges of raising children.
I have been part of the ESAI community for just over a month. I am truly grateful for the hard work of our teachers,
the kindness and sometime high energy of our K to 4 students, the leadership of our grade 5 to 8 students and the
support of our parents. Retirement is fun, but this was a great opportunity for me to be reminded of the joy of leading a
great school!
I want to congratulate our students who have really embraced the importance of using their second language in various
situations. Our staff has worked very hard to promote French and to give opportunities to the students to demonstrate
their second language skills. As parents and French Immersion families, please continue to encourage the use of
French at home through reading and listening to French media. By celebrating their second language, you are sending
a very important message to your child…As your parent I value your bilingualism!
A big thank you the Parent Advisory Council for their commitment to our school. I was very impressed by the number
of volunteers that got involved in the Diner aux Crêpes! It was done efficiently and with great pride! Well done!
As always, my door is always open. Never hesitate to drop by if you have any concerns, a great idea or just want to
chat!
Sincerely,
Simon Laplante
Acting- Principal
Please join me in congratulating Mme
Stephanie who will be our new ESAI
Secretary! Mme Stephanie is very excited
to remain an important member of our
school community.

Feel Good Day
Tuesday, March 20th is going to be ESAI's first ever Feel Good Day. Students, teachers and specialists will gather to build a tool kit to keep us happy and healthy. We will learn some techniques to be mindful, practice gratitude, help our bodies feel good through movement, get some fresh air to improve our mood and celebrate our own unique talents and gifts. We're asking everyone to bring a healthy lunch that day, as we know that nutrition has a big im-pact on our mood and ability to learn.
Thank you PAC for the delicious Pancake Breakfast!!
"Chanteurs Ste. Anne Singers"
Performed on February 28, 2018 at Villa Youville in Ste. Anne. The choir club meets a couple of times per week and consists of grades 5-8 students from both École Ste. Anne Immersion and Ste. Anne Elementary. Mme. Loboz is so proud of all your hard work and dedication, you
all sang, played, and danced wonderfully! I know the residents really appreciated that you shared some beautiful and fun music with them. Bravo!
