I am an interior design student

with a concentration in sustain-

ability at Endicott College in

Beverly, MA. I ranked 29 of 139

in my graduating class at Lin-

coln Academy High School of

Newcastle, ME in 2009. I am a

member of the International

Interior Design Association

(IIDA), and the Endicott College

Interior Design student organiza-

tion (ECID).

In the summer of 2010 I interned

at InEx Interior Design in New-

castle, ME. I developed my ex-

perience in working with clients

on both residential and com-

mercial projects as well as ad-

vanced my skills in AutoCad.

Stephanie Winchenbach

In the winter of 2012 I interned at

Winter Street Architects in Salem,

MA. I assisted greatly with trans-

ferring old building plans into

Revit Architecture. I also created

presentation boards for various

projects in Boston, MA.

I support the idea that “form

follows function,” and the

achievement of both should be

the goal of every designer. I

chose a focus in sustainable de-

sign to be a part of transforming

the future to be fully functional

and environmentally conscious. I

am looking forward to integrat-

ing the skills I have learned in my

education within a professional

setting.

Elephant is the restaurant located in the

East wing of the Glass Menagerie Hotel

in Charleston, MA. The Glass Menagerie

Hotel is inspired by the playwright writ-

ten by Tennessee Williams in 1945.

A menagerie is a place where wild or

unusual animals are kept. In the play,

Laura Wingfield is fixated on glass ani-

mal figurines. Consequently, the restau-

rant was named Elephant.

Drawing from the concept I chose ma-

terials which would produce a high

shine and reflective atmosphere. The

cool monochromatic scheme and glass

features of the restaurant envelope the

concept of the Glass Menagerie.

Smooth Flight is a smoothie bar within

an airport. The charrette had a 48 hour

time limit. The concept for the smoothie

bar was a contemporary approach to

Mod 60’s fashion. The space adopts the

color scheme, patterns and mod de-

sign features which was modeled in

Google Sketchup.

The objective of the Smooth Flight re-

freshment bar was to transform the

mod style into a contemporary space.

Other specific considerations were giv-

en to the smoothie bar such as univer-

sal design to be easily accessible by all

users.

The Earth Island Institute is a non-profit,

public interest, membership organiza-

tion that supports individuals who are

attempting to create solutions to pro-

tect the planet.

The concept behind the Earth Island

Institute office is driven by a quote that

the organization lives by:

“Anything you can do, or dream you

can, begin it. Boldness has genius pow-

er, and magic in it.” -Goethe

Boldness being the key word in chosen

for the design, the office was built

around the idea of having a white can-

vas with pops of bright color.

Juxtapose is a custom made lighting

fixture which redefines the perception

of stained glass as seen in church win-

dows and Tiffany lamps. The geometric

and irregular pattern defines a sleek

and contemporary look. The custom

lighting fixture is functional for residen-

tial or commercial use.

The light source is a Phillips LED, which

exceeds efficiency of incandescent

sources today.

The custom lighting fixture was inserted

into the existing space to the right using

Photoshop, to provide an indication of

how juxtapose could work in a room.

The purpose behind the left brain / right

brain was to “learn to see” I began with

four images under the categories of

anatomy, maps, and nature. Since the-

se images are identifiable, it is consid-

ered to use the right brain.

The next step of the project was to im-

pose two of the images together, which

begins the transformation into abstrac-

tion, considered to be part of the crea-

tive left brain. The second step consist-

ed of imposing the two new drawings,

combining all four images together.

The final product is artwork that has

been completely abstracted beyond

recognition of the original four images.

Museo Di Penone is a museum in Flor-

ence, Italy that was completely reno-

vated from Florence’s oldest train sta-

tion, Stazione Leopolda. The museum

has a permanent exhibition dedicated

to Italian sculptor Guiseppe Penone. His

works involve natural elements such as

wood and leather and the relationship

between man and nature.

The concept of the museum was taken

from the shops of the Ponte Vecchio

bridge in Florence. The contrast of

aged wood and iron paired with the

elegance of gold and diamonds sold

in the shops serves as a conceptual

model for the design.
