An integrated primary literacy and

language arts course for the Caribbeanlanguage arts course for the Caribbean

Stories from the start of time, from the present, and from the future, stories that last forever and take us through realms of time and space, stretching our imagination to new limits. This anthology can be used in conjunction with Stepping Stones Student Book and Teacher Handbook 5, or as a stand alone product. Either way, open it up to be transported into new worlds of time and space.

Stepping Stones is an integrated literacy and language arts series designed specifically for Caribbean children. The course includes student books, teacher handbooks, anthologies, interactive web support and a levelled reading programme. To see a complete list of all titles and a structure map of the series, visit our website: http://caribbean.pearson.com/steppingstones.

The Last Day of SchoolJack Prelutsky

On the last day of schoolI was tickled to bits,I hopped on my desk

and had six sorts of fits,I was so glad to seemy vacation begin

that I practically wriggledright out of my skin.I rolled on the floor

and I leaped through the air,I honked like a goose

and I roared like a bear,I wiggled my ears

and I brayed like a mule,that’s what I did

on the last day of school.

BoringJack Prelutsky

By the time that August endedI was feeling sort of blue,I was bored with skates and Frisbees,climbing trees was boring too.I was sick of running races,throwing any sort of ball,there simply wasn’t anythingI cared to do at all.

It was boring, boring, boringjust to hear my parents say,“Turn off the television, please,and go outside and play.”

I was glad to see September,when vacation finally ends,and glad to be back here againin class with all my friends.

Vacation is over;It’s time to depart.I must leave behind(although it breaks my heart)

Bullfrogs in the pond,A can of eels,A leaky rowboat,Abandoned car wheels;

For I’m packing onlyNecessities:A month of sunsetsAnd two apple trees.
