EPA 2010 Mandate
Effective January 1, 2010 all heavy duty diesel truck engines
produced for sale in North America must meet the EPA 2010
emissions regulations:
– 83% reduction in NOx
– No reduction in particulates compared to 2007.
– The technical solution will build upon the US07 engine and Diesel
Particulate Filters (DPF).
– Addition of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)
– Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
– On Board Diagnostics (OBD).

Diesel Exhaust Fluid
• Currently available at dealer locations and truck stops.
• Our supplier, TerraCair has acquired licensing rights for a
form of DEF that will not freeze at temperatures as low as
-30 C.
• The consumption rate of DEF is 2 to 3% of the diesel fuel
consumption rate.
• There is no delay in driving a truck with a frozen
DEF tank.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid
• DEF is not a hazardous substance.
• There are no known health hazards related
to handling DEF.
• Material safety data sheets available from
suppliers provides more information on
handling of urea.
• No restrictions for transports on rail, road or
ships.

Even in 1998 we knew…
Diesel Fuel should be sipped!
Here is just ONE of many very good reasons for SCR:
FUEL ECONOMY
Emission Facts: Average Carbon
Dioxide Emissions Resulting from
Diesel Fuel
CO2 emissions from a gallon of diesel
= 10.1 kg/gallon
= 22.2 pounds/gallon
Natural Gas
• Meets US ’10 Emissions regulations
• Reduced dependency on foreign oil
• Lower fuel costs
• Lower CO2 emissions
• Land Fill Gas / Biomethane capable
• Three way catalyst – Does not require DPF or SCR
• Quieter engine operation ( residential )
• Well suited for trucks that return home every night
Hybrid
• Diesel Electric System
• MP7 - 325M -- EPA US ’10
• Mack M-Drive Automatic Transmission
• 120 kW Electric Motor
• 600 V Lithium-Ion Batteries
• Mild Hybrid
– Launch Assist only
• Parallel Design
• Production: 2011 – 2012
Hybrid
– Features and Benefits• Smaller diesel engine
• Electrification of power steering, air compressor, air
conditioner
• Idle avoidance
• Electric power take off
• Lower GHG emissions
• Lower sound levels
• Elimination of driveline retarder – Reduced initial cost
– Reduced maintenance cost.
Hybrid
• Up to 30 % reduction in fuel
consumption
• 12 hours in residential refuse with less
than 40 gallons of fuel
• Performance equal to or better than
US’10 Powertrain
To summarize…
• Certified and Compliant to EPA 2010.
• Mack will use the same engine as today.
• Significantly improved FE/ GHG Reduction.
• Over 4 Years experience with DEF in Europe.
• DEF is readily available.
• Customer demo experience has been very good.
