FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
Welcome in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use.
A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers.
Washrooms are also located in the lower hall.
If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you.
We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better!
Please silence cell phones and other electronics. Speak softly, move slowly and allow each one present to listen for God’s voice.
Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you!
Perhaps this prayer may help you begin your preparation today: “Holy Lord, You are the music, and Lord, we are Your song. We are as one voice, and to You our hearts belong. We come to pray, to sing, and lift our praises to You, with numbers large and small. Your melodious love unites us, to praise You, one and all. We come to worship You, O Holy Lord, we glorify Your name. We will GO in one accord, Your greatness to proclaim. Holy Lord, You are the music, and Lord we are Your song. Lord You echo through us with such a sweet refrain. Lord, You are the music, and WE come now, and then will GO to LIVE Your wondrous song. Amen.” (paraphrase of Joseph Martin’s, “Lord, You are the Music”)

Opportunities For Life and Service
Reflective Moment “Speak, O Lord” Christa Walsh Speak, O Lord, as we come to You, to receive the food of Your Holy Word. Take Your Truth, plant it deep in us; shape and fashion us in Your likeness; that the light of Christ might be seen today in our acts of love and our deeds of faith. Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us all Your purposes for Your glory.
THE APPROACH: THE PRAISE AND WORSHIP OF GOD
Call to Worship “Gather Near” Laureen Snook Leader: Gather near. Hear the faint flutter of
wings. You are in the presence of God.
People: God shall hide us in the shadow of His
wings and protect us like the apple of His eye.
Leader: God shall place our feet on the path of
peace and keep us from slipping.
Choir: God turns His ear toward us to catch our every breath and showers us with love.
Leader: Gather here. Let the wings enfold you and
bring you peace.
ALL: Let us feel God’s strength around us and let our songs of praise rise in the
air.

ALL SING: “Let’s Just Praise the Lord” Congregation #107
(Let’s just praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let’s just lift our songs to heaven and praise the Lord.) x2
Unison Invocation Congregation/Laureen Snook We gather as Your people to worship You, O God. Call our
wandering minds to think Your thoughts. Draw our divided
loyalties to hear Your call as Lord. Lift our songs in true praise to You, our Saviour and Deliverer, Our Sustainer and Comforter, our
Lord and our God. Then fill us with such love that everyone we
meet will know assuredly, that we are Christ’s disciples. Amen and Amen!
*Hymn of Praise “As Saints of Old Their First Fruits Brought” All (Tune: Forest Green, #126 Baptist Federation Hymnal)
(The children will come forward during the singing of this hymn.) As saints of old their first fruits brought of orchard, flock and field,
To God the giver of all good, the source of bounteous yield;
So we today first fruits would bring: the wealth of this good land, Of farm and market, shop and home, of mind, and heart, and hand.
In gratitude and humble trust we bring our best today.
To serve Your cause, to share Your love and show to all Your way.
O God, who gave Yourself to us in Jesus Christ Your Son,
Teach us to give ourselves each day until life’s work is done.

All things are Yours! We make that true when we return our gifts to You.
And so we give, and so we share, in Christ’s strong name expressing care.
“Give out of love,” Your Word commands. We are Your head,
Your heart, Your hands. Your Word You underscore with deeds by using us to answer
needs.
O what a joy to give and then out of compassion, give again.
You have no needs. Though that be true, the gifts we share are given to You.
Sermon “Giving – The Best Communication” John Nelson

RESPONSE TO THE WORD AND RETURN TO THE WORLD
*Hymn of Response “God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending” Congregation
(Tune: Hyfrydol, #61)
God, whose giving knows no ending, from Your rich and endless store;
Nature’s wonder, Jesus’ wisdom, costly cross, grave’s shattered door.
Gifted by You, we turn to You, offering up ourselves in praise Thankful song shall rise forever, gracious donor of our days.
Life and time are ours for pressing toward the goals of Christ,
Your Son: All at peace in health and freedom, races joined, the church
made one. Now direct our daily labour, lest we strive for self alone;
Born with talents, make us servants, fit to answer at Your throne.
Call to Prayer Norma Holtslander Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy
kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we

and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

*Choral Benediction “The Spirit Sends Us” Congregation (Tune: Ellacombe, #59)
{Repeat last melody line of the hymn with the additional words.}

check them out (including important photographic evidence that Joel was
wrongfully and most maliciously impeded by his own brother-in-law, Evan, in
