The following brief description of the separation of roles and responsibilities between the Bishop’s Committee and the Ministry Support Circle was drafted by Jim Neal and then discussed at the meetings of both the groups. It was suggested that it be submitted as a newsletter article because it would provide helpful clarification for many at St. Hugh. Sunny Cotey

Ginny Retires as Treasurer
After years of faithful service as Treasurer, Ginny confirmed with me that she should be considered retired. I thanked Ginny for her service and commitment over these years.
At the next Bishop's Committee meeting we will officially accept her retirement request. Sunny has talked with Linda Niles about assuming this position and we equally appreciate all the work Linda has done as she worked with Ginny.

Ginny Green’s New Address & Phone
Wilma and I visited with Ginny and her family on Sunday after church. We got there as the U-Haul Truck was leaving.
She moved on Sunday;; will be staying in her daughter's house until her mobile (which is on the same property) is ready for her.

To everyone:
I wish to thank all of you for your prayers, cards, hugs, and kind words - both for me and for
Charlie, during our 8 month journey. He loved all the cards, the good wishes - and he loved St. Hugh and felt so blessed to join our church family.
God Bless ALL of ST. HUGH!

Bishop’s Committee Met April, 11th
This is to let you know what happened there.
Karen Headley was welcomed to the Committee in her new position as Scribe.
Previously it had been thought we would need to have sprinkler heads replaced soon, however, this will not be needed this year.
It was decided not to renew our contract to list St. Hugh in the DEX directory, a cost savings of $34 per month. It provided a listing in only the Kitsap directory, not in Shelton’s or Key Peninsula’s. We’re open to any alternatives DEX might suggest when they learn of our decision. At this time, however, it was felt a better use of those dollars would be to improve our signs. Other ideas, like advertising on the Internet, were also discussed but no further decisions were made.
It was also decided not to renew our membership with North Mason Chamber of Commerce.
Lawn maintenance proposal was discussed along with how it applies to the proposed new storage shed and riding mower costs. Issue needs to be raised with the congregation.
Wave Broadband is up and running. The switch from Century Link is now completed and everything is working fine.
Narthex Expansion – About $6,000 is needed to get a preliminary building plan so estimates can be received. This is another issue to be discussed with the congregation. Announcements will be made the next 2 Sundays for the discernment to be April 28, after Church. The Diocese also needs to be kept informed of our potential plans.
New Treasurer - When Ginny Green Leaves Linda Niles will take over as treasurer. JoAnna Meyer has agreed to be a signer on the checking account to replace Ginny Green. Ginny has been really a great supporter and servant of St. Hugh and will be missed. We wish her all be best.
Linda and Sunny both spoke on the Congregational Leadership Conference they attended. Discussion led to the realization that not all the various groups that meet regularly are sending their minutes to be filed.
Sunny distributed St. Hugh Ministry 2013 Responsibilities/Oversight List for review and comments. (See front page.)
To improve communications about upcoming events, everyone should remember to let Karen Headley in the office know so that everything gets put on the calendar, both on the kitchen door and in the News & Views.

"Twelve Days of Christmas" Quilt Raffle The ECW will be selling raffle tickets for a handmade quilt - designed and created by Garby and Christie. They have graciously donated it for a fundraiser. In order to make this a huge, successful project, we are asking members to buy and especially to sell the tickets. We all belong to different community groups; book clubs, garden clubs, golf leagues, etc. and of course our family members and friends! This would be a beautiful quilt to adorn your bed during the holidays - or what a great gift for a family member of special friend!
Last year, ECW was able to distribute $10,000 to 22 different groups, so please help make this project a BIG success! The raffle ticket prices are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. There is a sign-up list in the narthex, so please specify how many tickets you would like, and Donna Tarver will get you a packet which contains tickets, a photo of the quilt, and information you could give out on the groups we donated to last year.
YOUR HELP IS THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENT to making this project a true money-maker! We thank you in advance...
Harstine Island Community Choir Spring Concert Can you remember wanting to dress as a pirate, to brandish a sword and to speak with a brogue? Can you remember films where the handsome captain rescues the beautiful woman and sails into the sunset, his glorious ship with all sails set? Those were exciting days and the Harstine Island Community Choir brings them back to life with Songs of the Sea, showcasing chanties men sang while working the squire-rigged ships of the Golden Days of Sail. Sailors, fishermen, whalers, wives and children are represented with songs showing their involvement with the sea.
May 18, 2013, Saturday, 3:00, St. Hugh Episcopal Church Harstine Choir is made up of singers from all over Mason County and from Olympia. Everyone is welcome, so if you want to join us in September when we start preparing our Christmas concerts. Contact director Elizabeth Berndt, 432-9940 for more information.

After our business meeting, Jacquie Strange from the Antique Shop, in Allyn, will be our guest program. There are a few items that cannot be appraised because of the needed research....such as coins, documents, watches, etc. China & glassware are the best choices, but more info will be coming. So mark your calendar for MAY 13th - 10am coffee - 10:30am meeting & then the "Antiques Roadshow" to follow.

Barry and Vicki's Big Adventure 9 Oct. Our alarm clock didn't go off this morning for some reason, but we woke up at 5:20 and needed to check out of the hotel at 6:00. Luckily we packed most everything the night before. No time for a shower, we just washed up and brushed teeth and left. After we checked out and caught a cab for the train station, we could catch our breath. We arrived at the station in plenty of time, but had a little trouble finding the correct platform. We checked some reader boards and our tickets, but we didn't realize that some platforms are divided into A and B. It was too early for the information booth, so I found some morning workers and asked them to help us. One young man spoke fairly good English and explained this to us, so we found the correct platform number and then walked to the correct spot. We said (sang in my head) Arrevederci Roma at 6:43 and arrived in Terontola at 9:20. This was a commuter train so we made a lot of stops. Doumina's driver Fabio met us at the train station with the keys to our car and off we went. We left the hotel in Rome before breakfast, so we stopped at a rest stop along the freeway and had a cup of coffee and roll. We didn't have a reservation for tonight, but thought we'd just continue driving north and stay somewhere north of Genoa along the Med. That was the plan at least. We found a couple of nice towns but either the hotels were closed or there was no parking and they were nearly impossible to reach. Soooo, we decided to just keep driving and surely we would find something along the way. We kept driving north and then west and stopped at a rest stop along the freeway for gas and got some snack crackers to munch on. When we got back in the car and turned on the GPS, it would not boot up. Nothing. Nada. Nil. We had our maps and knew we were headed for the French Riviera as we had a reservation there for tomorrow night at a town called Villefranche sur Mer. So we kept driving and kept trying the GPS. Still nothing. I was getting a little worried because we still had a lot of European
driving to do before we headed home in mid-October. We found a couple more small towns and tried to find a hotel or restaurant but everything was closed for the season. I was really starting to feel anxious and I could sense that Barry was feeling frustrated also, which only made me more anxious. I was tired, hungry and worried, so I started crying. When Barry asked me what was wrong, I replied...."I think it's time to go home!" I knew crying was not going to solve anything but it did help to relieve some of my anxiety, and we forged on. We left Italy and crossed into France;; we were looking for an exit for Villefranche Sur Mer but did not see one. Before we knew it, we had reached the exit for Nice which was a little farther West from Villefrance Sur Mer. We got off the freeway at Nice and found a McDonald's at the foot of the exit, so we went in there thinking that some of the young workers would speak English and we could ask directions to get us back to Villefranche Sur Mer. They didn't speak English (or wouldn't speak English) but we decided to get a hamburger and sit for a minute to look at maps and try to plot our return. A man standing in line spoke English so he told us how to get to where we were going. We had to go through Nice until we reached the Port and then turn left which would get us on the road to Villefranche Sur Mer. We ate, got in our little car and after a couple of hiccups, we made it to the hotel that we had a reservation for the next night. Luckily they had a room available, so we unloaded the car and got to our room. We were both beat, but especially Barry with all the driving. After three beautiful days in Rome, this day was especially hard. Tomorrow we are going into Nice to see if we can buy a new GPS. When we get home, Garman (the manufacturer of our GPS and European chip) is getting a piece of my mind. We walked to a sidewalk cafe in this quaint town built on a hill straight up from the Med. Had a simple but delicious meal and felt thankful that we had arrived here and had a plan for tomorrow. To bed early.

ECW Honors Ginny Green On April 8th, our long-time member and dearly loved friend, Ginny Green, was honored. This was also a time to bid a bitter-sweet farewell to her, as she moves away to be near her daughter in
Buckley. In addition to a m o n e t a r y ‘love gift’, she was given a card signed by all, and there was a beautifully decorated cake with butterflies on it for the coffee hour….
Following this social time, a business meeting was held, the focus of which was planning for ECW hospitality events this month and a discussion surrounding the ‘quilt raffle’ for the Holiday Bazaar, which will be a major money maker!
The morning was completed with a highly entertaining program by Claudette May, a friend of Connie’s, who brought a car load (literally!) of beautiful hat boxes, all filled with her life-long collection of hats! We tried them on, heard Claudette’s interesting stories of how she found them. We enjoyed this time – and laughed a lot!! To quote our president, “it was like a bunch of little girls playing dress-up!” What fun we had!
