Stop motion also known as frame-by-frame is an animation technique to make an object that would not normally move appear to move on its own. The object is moved by small amounts between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames are played as a continuous sequence. Clay figures are often used in stop motion animations, known as claymation, for their ease of repositioning between pictures. A commonly known example of stop motion film is Magic Roundabout .

The first recorded stop motion video is The Humpty Dumpty Circus in 1898 made by Albert E. Smith and J. Stuart Blackton. In 1902 the film Fun in a Bakery Shop used clay for a stop motion "lightning sculpting" sequence. The Haunted Hotel (1907) is another stop motion film by James Stuart Blackton

Nicholas Wulstan Park is a four-time Academy Award-winning English filmmaker of stop motion animation best known as the creator of Wallace and Gromit. He has been nominated for an Oscar five times and won four times (the fifth nomination was against another of his own films. From Wallace and Gromit came creature comforts.
