SPORTIMPORTANT OF

IN LIFESports are very important, not only to kids, but for adults as well. When

you play Sports you meet so many people you probably wouldn’t if you

didn’t play. You hone your skills, hand-eye coordination, speed, agility, endur-

ance, and overall strength.

Sports also provide numerous opportunities for children and teenagers to

grow socially, emotionally, and physically. Furthermore, they also allow youth to

learn and practice in a competitive environment. While Sports may increase child-

care’s positive social interaction with adults and one another, they can also create

stressful environments for children.

For example, adults may place unrealistic pressure on their children to perform.

Parents and children must find a balance in regard to how many extracurricular

activities children participate in.

Food Pyramid for AthletesFor athletes exercising more than 5 hours per weekBased on the Food Phyramid for healthy adultsof the swiss society for nutrition

General Food Pyramids and the Athlete’s NeedsFew pyramids address an athlete’s needs. Al-though the new U.S. Food Guide Pyramid can be used to fit athletes’ dietary needs, the rec-ommendations and available worksheets are limited to a total daily energy intake of 3,000 kcal/day, and these guidelines were not de-veloped specifically to address the athlete’s energy and nutrient needs.l5 Similarly, Hout-

kooperr6 modified the standard 1992 U,S. Food Guide Pyramid and included fluids as a new food category at the base of the pyramid, emphasizing the importance of hydration for athletes.

IN SPORT

I njury can affect your bones, muscles, joints or the connective tissues that hold them together - the tendons and ligaments. Most of the time

the cause of your injury can be established and a recurrence prevent-ed, so it needn’t stop your fitness programme for long. But it’s vital you don’t ignore injuries and simply ‘soldier on’ as this can make them much worse and leave you with a chronic condition that’s far harder to treat.

What causes injury?

One common cause of injury, especially in contact sports, is trau-ma-in other words, a broken bone, a twisted knee, a sprained

ankle.Traumatic injuries are usually the result of impact and colli-sions, and typically occur suddenly, so generally there’s not much you can do to prevent them (although in most games or sports one of the aims of the rules is to reduce the risk of injury, so following the rules should make you safer). But other injuries occur over time, and as a result of identifiable problems, and so are preventable in many cases.

IN SPORT

Who's the best person to treat my injury?

Physiotherapy - this covers a well-es-tablished group of treatments or tech-niques, frequently involving physical ma-nipulation of the affected area. It's offered in hospitals, on the high street, in doctors' sur-geries, and often in gyms and sports centres.

Podiatry - podiatrists specialise in diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the foot and low-er limb. They can provide relief of painful symp-toms and also preventive care for people with conditions that may affect the health of their feet.

Osteopathy - this is a complementary ther-apy that focuses on musculo-skeletal prob-lems. It concentrates primarily on problems with muscles, joints and nerves and employs a range of physical and manual techniques.

Chiropractic - chiropractors use physical ma-nipulation to treat problems with joints, bones and muscles, and the effects they have on the nervous system. Chiropractors place particu-lar emphasis on the spine, which is why they tend to be associated with treating bad backs.

“ If your injury is minor – not much more than a little stiffness or soreness,it may be that you have simply been doing a little too much too soon and the affected area just needs rest. ”

While standing with feet hip-width apart, bend knees while pushing buttocks back, keeping your knees in line with your feet. On the way back to standing, jump into the air quickly. Upon landing, go right back into the squat position. Continue and repeat.

While squeezing your glutes, lie on your back on the floor with feet flat on low bed, chair or floor, and knees bent. Raise your hips until they are in line with your thighs and torso. Return back to starting position and repeat.

5 EXERCISE

ON THE GO..

“ To make the most of your work-out away from home, Scott says, “Clear out an area with enough space, and eliminate distractions by turning off your cell phone and the television.”

Sit on a chair with palms grasping the edge of the seat. Walk your legs out until your knees are above your feet. Dip down by bending your elbows until the arms are at a 90-degree angle. Push back up and repeat.

Standing and holding a full water bottle in each hand, bend from the waist until your torso is at a 60- to 90-degree angle. Start with your arms hanging, and then raise both arms straight out. (Use at least a 20-ounce water bottle. The larger the size, the harder the workout).

Lie on the floor on your back with legs extended and hands pointed up toward the ceiling, above chest. Sit up all the way without moving legs and reach into a toe touch.

Match fixing in sport

“Corruption in sport involves any illegal, immoral or unethical activity that attempts to deliberately distort the result of a sporting contest for the personal material gain of one or more parties involved in that activity”

Corruption in sport takes a number of forms, including bribery, doping, matchfixing and the misuse of inside information for betting purposes. This research has analysed the following types of corrup-tion: match-fixing (betting related), match-fixing (non-betting related), misuse of inside information (for betting purposes), and doping.

There has been much debate in sport management literature as to why sport has become such a lucrative global industry in sport management literature. Without this uncertainty and unpredict-ability, spectators will eventually, and inevitably, stop watching sport – if they know who is going to win before the match, game or race even starts, why bother watching it? Outcome uncertaintyis a fundamental part of the sporting experience.

20

Page 21: stopwatz

The specific role of sports betting in corruption

The fight against corruption in sport

Our analysis of cases of corruption in sport has already revealed that many matches are rigged with the aim of enrichment on the sports betting market. The laws of cricket and golf were codified in England in the 18th Century in order to resolve betting-related disputes. Cricket has a particu-larly rich history when it comes to cheating and fraudulent bets. David Forrest (2008) quotes a press article dating from 1774 criticising changes in cricket, which was being perverted - according to the author - by “excessive gaming ”70.

The sports movementThe sports movement is core to the issue of preserving the integrity and honesty of sporting competitions. Its direct relationship with the sport grassroots and its role in organising the sports events that are the subject of betting confer upon it a key responsibility.

Sports betting operatorsBetting operators provide major supp ort in the action because they have data enabling the de-tection and illustration of attacks on the integrity of sport. The Internet has helped to multiply the number of stakeholders in the activity. The offering is diversifying and more and more bets are being offered on an ever-increasing variety of sports competitions.

REACH THE SUMMITTOP BRANDS IN CLIMBING GEAR

TO GET YOU TO THE TOP

A wide range of equipment is used during rock climbing. The most popu-lar types of climbing equipment are briefly described in this article. The

article on protecting a climb describes equipment commonly used to protect a climber against the consequences of a fall.

Everything we do when we’re rock climbing, like placing gear for protection or clipping into bolts, and all the equipment that we use is designed to miti-gate the dire effects of gravity. If you fall climbing and you’re not properly using climbing equipment, then you’re going to get hurt. You have to learn to trust your equipment, rope, and your belayer, which comes with getting out climbing and learning how the safety system works.
