Contents Introduction There are varieties of digital camcorder models in the market. Many of them have similar basic features but with different appearance. Learning the basics of how the Canon ZR40 digital camcorder works, you should be able to play around with different camcorders. In this module, you will learn the basic features of Canon ZR40 digital camcorder, how to attach and charge battery packs, load and unload a cassette, record movies and still pictures, zoom, and view your recorded movies on the LCD screen and TV screen. The module is organized in a more sequential manner. You can:

Read the entire module from beginning to end.

Skim through and stop when a topic interests you. Use a site map to find specific information.

If you are new to digital camcorders, or have not used any digital camcorder before, I would recommend you to follow the module. After the getting started section, you will familiarize yourself with the components of Canon ZR40 and how to turn the camcorder on. Then, you can seek out whatever interests you most by skimming or using the site map.

2. Preparation

Now that you are familiar with the parts of Canon ZR40 we can proceed to preparation stages on:

How to hold the camcorder How to get a power source to operate the camcorder.

How to hold a camcorder

Before operating your camcorder, you will need to learn how to hold the camcorder correctly. Follow the directions below to learn how to hold the camcorder.

First of all, grip the camcorder in your right hand and keep your right elbow pressed against your body. Your right hand should be inside the belt grip

Release the Velcro fastening and hold the camcorder with your right hand while you adjust the belt with your left hand.

Your index finger should reach the zoom control and photo button, and your thumb should reach the start/stop button comfortably.

If necessary, support the camcorder with your left hand. With practice, you will be able to operate the control by touch, without taking your eyes off the action.

How to get a power source

Before operating your camcorder, you will need to use the power adapter to charge a battery pack or provide power from an AC outlet.

The following section will introduce you how to attach and charge battery packs by using a flow chart.

11

Page 12: Story Board - University of Tennesseeweb.utk.edu/~wratchuk/itce578/weekend/storyboard.pdf · Wimolrat “Nai” Ratchukool ITCE578 Story Board I. Site Map Introduction 1. Getting

Wimolrat “Nai” Ratchukool ITCE578

Your battery pack was more than 50% charged before it left ISC. It should have enough power for you to check that your camcorder is working properly. However, you must charge the battery fully if you want to power the camcorder for more than a few minutes.

To fully charge your battery pack: 1 hour

Maximum recording time: Using Viewfinder 1 hr. 35 min.

: Using LCD screen 1 hr. 15 min.

Maximum playback time : Using LCD screen 1 hr. 20 min.

With the tools provided: a power adapter, Canon ZR40 camcorder, a power cable, and a battery pack, practice the following:

Attach a battery pack to the camcorder. Write a diagram of connecting the camcorder to an AC outlet.

Click here to compare your answers. (Infuse interactivity by using java script to open another pop up windows so that readers can compare their answers.)

Write down steps in charging the batter pack in a sequential order. Click here to compare your answers. (Infuse interactivity by using java script to open another pop up windows so that readers can compare their answers.) Loading and Unloading a Videocassette

In this section, you will learn how to load and unload a videocassette. The Canon ZR40 uses only videocassettes marked with the Mini DV logo (Mini DV is a trade mark)

Conclusion

Now, you have come to the conclusion of the Unit. The instruction in this material is designed to cover only basic principles on how to operate the digital camcorder particularly CANON ZR40. There are still other full range features such as using the various recording programs, using digital effects, audio recording, making manual adjustments, and editing to a VCR and computer platform. To take an advantage of these advanced operations, you can refer to the manual that comes with CANON ZR40. This concludes the activities for this unit. The following page contains an objective test that will evaluate your learning. Also, there is a questionnaire to assess your reactions concerning the instruction for further revision and improvement of the unit. Your feedback will be valuable in the effort to improve this unit. Thank you for your participation.
