RSPB Exe EstuaryTwo areas of coastal grazing marsh not far from the historic city of Exeter. In winter, during floods or around high tide, there are thousands of waterbirds including black-tailed godwits and wigeons.

Becky Falls Woodland ParkVoted Devon’s top beauty spot, with woodland walks, waterfalls, animals and full entertainment programme during school holidays.

WalkDartmoor National ParkThe largest and wildest area of open country in Southern England, with over 368 square miles of moorland, forest and woodland.

Stover Country ParkLocated adjacent to site. Enjoy a pleasant stroll around the lake and spot wildlife. Dog owners must ensure dogs are kept under control and on a lead around the lake. Leaflets about the park, lake and walks can be obtained from the park rangers office.

Stover Golf Course offers reduced golfing rates for members staying on site, and has a bar with food available until 5pm (later if events are on).

Teignmouth, Dawlish and Babbacombe are all great nearby beaches.

The Stover Canal is lovely for a stroll around, and we spotted an abundance of wildlife at Stover Country Park, including robins, squirrels and swans.

Newton Abbot is a lovely old market town and is good for fishing.

Take a bike ride on prom at Torquay, finish with fish & chips on the beach.

Visitor’s top tips

The fish & chips from the van that visits site on Fridays were excellent!

We had a wonderful day out on the Dartmouth Steam Railway’s Round Robin, which includes a river boat, steam train and bus, visitingPaignton, Dartmouth and Totnes.

Visit the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey, it’s free and the kids will love it!

The Otter Sanctuary and Butterfly Farm at Buckfastleigh is wonderful.

Bradley House and Buckfast Abbey are definitely worth a visit.

SupermarketsCo-op next to Trago Mills or Tesco just outside Newton Abbot. Sainsbury’s is on the A380 and Asda is in the town centre. Lidl is 3.6 miles.Swimming pool Newton Abbot Leisure Centre, 4 miles.
