Introduction:

Microstepping drives; STP-7A and STP-7AS are designed to get precise movement ,excellent speed , torque performance and to flow controlled current from drive to the winding of stepper motor. Controlled sequence and frequence of applied electrical pulses helps to drive stepper motor with maximum degree of accuracy for motion control applications. Drive STP-07A & STP-07AS contain 1 ,2 ,5 ,and 10 multiplier options available for different industrial motion control applications

Before you start ,You must have a STEP and DIRECTION pulse source ,a suitable DC power source (+24 to +80V DV) and stepper motor. Rated phase current of stepping motor must be between 1 to 3.5Amp for STP-7AS and 1 to 7 Amp for STP-7A. Current setting must beaccording to current rating of stepper motor.

Important precautions before using Drives:

Configuration of STP-7A/STP-7AS

Auto current reduction: The STP-7A and STP-7AS reduces motor phase current to 33% of theset value when the stepper motor is holding. To disable this feature adjust jumper Jp-1 as perrequirement as shown in figure-7.

Trimpot Setting: To adjust stepper motor for the smoothest possible low speed operation.

Multiplier Setting: Multiplier 1 , 2 , 5 , or 10 can be achieved from STP-7A/STP-7AS , by setting jumper Jp-2 as per your requirement as shown in figure.

Connections:

STEP and DIRECTION terminals of the drive can be used as common +ve as well as common -ve. And to maintain isolation, the optocouplers must be powered by an external power source. The opto supply (at terminals -CLK and -DIR in case of common -ve and at terminals +CLK and +DIR in case of common +ve) for optocouplers it can be between +5 to +24V DC with respect to the signal input. But if supply is greater then +5V DC the resistance must be connected in series of with each signal line according to Table-4.

Check power carefully , power supply voltage excess of +80V DC will damage the microstepping drive. Connect one motor winding to terminals A & A and other winding to terminal B & B. Turn the power supplyOFF while connecting or disconnecting the stepper motor.)

Safety precautions:

1. Read STP-7A/STP-7AS user manual thoroughly before use.2. Power supply voltage in excess of +80V DC will damage the STP-7A/STP-7AS. 3. Do not short the leads of stepper motor to each other or to the ground. 4. Do not shut off the power supply while the motor is moving.5. For safety reasons , connect the power supply at last.

(If winding wires A, A, B, B are not clear, take a pair of wires; use an ohmmeter to check for continuity. When

you find the first two wires that have continuity, connect it to the A terminals.

Connect the other two to the B terminals.)

3. 8 Lead wire motor connections: Eight wire stepper motor can be connected in two ways: Parallel and Series , in following manners.
