SebukuSebuku mine, on the very edge of South-East Kalimantan, is ranked as one of the most reliable and consistent quality thermal coal producers in Indonesia. Sebuku coal mine has been in operation since 1997.

Our clients have the important assurance of on-time delivery of coal to their vessels because we are the only miner on Sebuku and we own and run our own barging port on the Island, which gives open access to nearby deepwater moorings.

The mine itself is an open pit, truck and shovel operation with crushing and on-site washing that is needed for about half of

product. Straits Asia Resources Limited has mined at Sebuku for over 10 years and has established Sebuku brand coal as a first rate, single burn coal with clean characteristics and efficient combustion that is ideal for power utilities.

We grow with our clients; as your demand increases, so does our supply. Our 10-year forward planning for Sebuku coal has step-ups to higher production volumes which means we will continue to keep pace with even the most aggressive growth rates in Asia.

JembayanJembayan mine is a major coal resource. The mine produces two brands of thermal coal in a multi-pit operation that begun operations in 2004 and was acquired by Straits Asia Resources Limited in 2007. Prangat and JMB coal brands offer low and medium CV thermal coal for our customers in Indonesia and Asia with full service back up from Straits Global Trading’s team in Singapore. As with all Straits Asia Resources Limited products, Jembayan is recognised for on-time deliveries from its self-owned port for FOB sales.

InfrastructureWe own and run the entire key infrastructure at both Sebuku and Jembayan mines. For the physical mining, trucking and barging we use Indonesia’s most proven and reliable contractors.

Sebuku’s run of mine includes preparation plants that wash coal to bring it to the high quality characteristics that customers

expect of the brand. All normal laboratory testing and quality control takes place on-site to ensure consistency. Our self-owned barging port is close to deep water moorings for vessels and, if needed, we arrange crane barges for loading. We are upgrading Sebuku’s capacity throughout the mine so that we can produce more coal to satisfy the increasing demands for world energy.

Jembayan is a relatively new mine with first class infrastructure that includes a dedicated haul road and our own barging port to receive the two brands of coal from Jembayan’s multi pit operation. The low ash and low sulphur characteristics of Jembayan’s coals mean that no washing is needed. Coal is loaded onto our customers’ vessels at offshore locations at Muara Jawa or Muara Berau Samarinda, East Kalimantan. Straits Asia Resources Limited is also planning capacity upgrades at Jembayan to keep pace with our customers’ growing demands.

Straits Global Trading is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Singapore-listed Straits Asia Resources Limited. The Group was spun out of the Australian-listed Straits Resources Limited in November 2006 as a move to create a dedicated, Asia-focused mining and coal marketing company. Coal is the only resource that we market and coal will remain our primary resource focus.

Our mining activities are exclusively in Indonesia where we have two mines: Sebuku mine on Sebuku Island in South East Kalimantan, and Jembayan mine near Samarinda in East Kalimantan. We have administrative offices in Jakarta, Balikpapan and Samarinda and a Head Office in Singapore for corporate and marketing activities. We own 100% of our mines, an important advantage that allows us to focus on customer service.

In the space of less than 10 years, we have risen to become one of Indonesia’s largest producers and exporters of thermal coal. Our ambition is to continue a fast pace of growth that will enable us to offer our clients a wider range of coal sources, higher production rates and, therefore, an increasingly superior service.

Straits Asia Group has a culture that demands us to maintain international standards and professionalism at all levels of business. We describe our Purpose in two paragraphs:

Through a strong mining base in Indonesian coal, Straits Asia Resources Limited will house a management team that will grow the Group into the leading Asia-wide coal mining company.

By entrepreneurship, organic growth, acquisition and measured risk-taking, Straits Asia Resources Limited intends to develop all businesses in its stable to world-class.
