Design Concept:This contemporary South Aus-tin residence was designed with clean lines and distinct spaces. A simple material pallet from local sources reinforces a strong connection to the local context. A solid perimeter on the eastern and western extents of the rear yard focusses atten-tion toward a weathered steel fence with heavy duty ag panel mesh. This provides easy vis-ibility towards Williams Creek which sits directly adjacent to the property. Rain barrels of-fer supplemental irrigation for landscape plants.

Design Concept:This West Austin estate started as the addition of a small wall in the rear yard and quickly expanded into a property wide landscape redevelop-ment. The design reinforces a connection with the adjacent grassland savannah while also providing a refined environ-ment for the home owners to entertain. Hill Country views and sloping topography drove the design helping to create a dynamic landscape envi-ronment. Warm earth tones found through out the hard-scape palette were enlivened with splashes of color in the plant material and decorative planters.

Design Concept:This quaint North Austin resi-dence was designed with daily use in mind. The client (own-er of an established Austin Graphic Arts firm) often offices out of his home and was ada-mant that the outdoor spaces promote a relaxing and usable environment to step away from the rigors of 9-5. A simple and locally accessible material pal-ette establishes a strong sense of place. Locating gathering as well as lounging spaces under shade helped determine the final layout for patio spac-es in the rear yard. The design provides and informal setting for outdoor entertainment.

Design Concept:The client for this West Austin residence (the CEO of a major Texas wind energy producer) expressed a variety of goals to promote sustainability from the start. Landscape irrigation is supplied by a 6000 gallon rainwater / condensate cistern below grade. The cistern has an interpretive component to introduce guests to this po-table water alternative. A 200 gallon gray water system is used to irrigate specimen trees within the native grassland ar-eas and 90% of the stone used in the landscape was sourced within 100 miles of the project. Plant material is also extremely drought tolerant.

Entertainment Spaces:Large live oaks were preserved within stone tree pits. The rear entertainment patio spaces offer an outdoor kitchen, fire-place, infinity edge spa, grass lounging areas, a private pa-tio and an expansive salt wa-ter pool. Decorative planters with succulents were placed throughout hardscape ar-eas to add color and variety. Views toward downtown Aus-tin were accentuated through vegetation corridors and ar-chitectural site lines. Outdoor furnishings were designed and manufactured locally to add an eccentric Austin vibe to the otherwise formal setting.

Design Concept:The owner of this West Austin residence envisioned a cozy rear yard entertainment space. Our Central Texas climate made the first element an easy choice, a pool is situated just west of the main covered pa-tio. The central patio space houses an outdoor kitchen complete with a vinotemp wine cooler, stainless steel ap-pliances, a 48” viking grill and a 42” HD television (secured to an exterior wall with a high end steel bracket). A small spa keeps the pool area active during colder seasons and a gas ignited fire ring provides a dynamic addition to the space year round.
