CourseDescription:Thiscross-disciplinarygraduatecourseprovidesaholisticoverviewoftheenvironmental,social,economicandgovernance(ESEG)aspectsofsustainabilitymanagementandhowtoaddressthemstrategicallytomaximizebusinessandproductperformancetomeetchangingstakeholderexpectations.Youwillhavetheopportunitytolearnaboutavarietyofsustainabilitychallengesfacedbyavarietyofindustrysectors,suchas:
• mitigationandadaptationtoclimatechange;• energy,water,materialsandresourcemanagement;• minimizingsupplychainrisksthatcanderailbusinesscontinuity.
Theneedtoapproachthesebroadchallengesinastrategicmannerisdiscussed,alongwithbestpracticesthatinclude:
• goingbeyondcorporatesocialresponsibility;• sustainabilityreportingframeworkstomanageandcommunicateperformance;and• theimportanceoflifecyclethinkingforcredibleenvironmentalmarketingactivities.
Youwillgainacross-sector,cross-functional,cross-disciplinaryperspectivethatwillprepareyoutoleadandfacilitatesustainabilitymanagementprogramsinvirtuallyanyindustry.Theimportanceofintegratingstrategicsustainabilitymanagementintotheinterconnectednetworkofsystemsthatmakeupthebusiness-to-businessvaluechainwillbediscussed.Thevalueofstrategicallymanagingsustainabilityimpactsthroughoutthefulllifecycleofproductswillalsobeaddressed.Internationallyrecognizedframeworks,bestpractices,methodologies,toolsandstandardswillbeintroducedasvehiclestotietheconceptstogetherforpracticalapplicationofsolutionsthatsupportleadershipinsustainabilityperformanceimprovement.

Thisassignmentconsistsofresearchandashortreportrelatedtothelecturecontentofthesubjectareaofintegratingproductlifecyclemanagementforsustainability.Selectaproductorgroupofproductswithinamanufacturingindustryofyourchoiceandreportonmanagementoftheirenvironmentaland/orsocialsustainabilityimpactsfromalifecyclethinkingperspective.Pleasedonotmerelysummarizethecontentofthelectures,butdemonstratehowproductlifecyclemanagementconcepts,frameworksandtoolshavebeenappliedinpracticeforproductsustainabilitymanagement.
CaseStudyProject(40%ofcoursegrade,3parts)Theprojectconsistsofcreatingacasestudy,presentationandreportthatwillallowyoutodemonstratetheapplicationofmultiplebusinessandproductsustainabilitymanagementapproachesandpracticesfromamulti-stakeholderperspective.Selectanexistingcross-disciplinaryorcross-sectorstrategicsustainabilitymanagementchallengewithinaproductmanufacturingindustrysectorforyourcasestudyproject.Thebreakdownofgradingfortheprojectisasfollows:1. 3. ProjectReport:4-5pages,50%-DueendofWeek11Youwillsubmitafinalprojectreportsummarizingthesustainabilityinitiativeorchallenge,objectives,stakeholderanalysis,collaborativesolutionsapplied,demonstratingthemethodology,toolsandpracticesused,resultsandconclusions.
