It is very important to keep yourFile of Life on your refrigerator. The paramedics always look therewhen responding to an emergency.
Please take the time to look atyour File of Life and see if it
needs updated or if you don't have one, please see me. Luz:)
Plan ahead. Before you go to the mall, slip a cheese stick and carrot sticks, or another low-fat snack, into your purse (or bag) to fight off temptations in the food court.
Don’t skip meals. “Saving up” calories will lead to feeling starving when you most need to stick to your plan and apply self-control. Instead, stick to eating healthful, balanced meals and snacks with fiber, vegetables, healthy fats, and protein so that you can make wise decisions about holiday treats when the time comes.
Never go to a party hungry. Take the edge off your hunger by eating a healthy snack such as apple slices, yogurt or vegetable soup.
Drink plenty of water. And drink a glass before the party to help fill you up.
Bring your own guilt-free dish to a party so you know there’s at least one you can splurge on.
Use a small plate so it looks full.
Remember, you can eat whatever you’d like, as long as it’s in moderation.
Don’t drink your calories. Consume alcohol in moderation, if at all.
Don’t hang out by the buffet table. Chatting beside it will only tempt you to graze.
If you want dessert, eat fewer calories during dinner and eat only the desserts you really want.
Before going back for seconds, wait 20 minutes for your food to “settle.” You might feel full and lose interest in more munching.
Watch the stress. The holidays, while a great time to get together and celebrate with family and friends, can also lead to extra stress related to traveling, finances and family dynamics. Incorporate daily stress relievers through exercise, meditation, and avoiding waiting until the last minute to buy gifts and make other preparations for the holidays.

Veterans' Day (November 11th) honors all members of the Armed Forces who served this country valiantly, and in a very big way. They served and fought to protect us,
to keep our country safe, and to preserve our way of life. Veterans gave their time, and risked their lives for you and me.
In some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice. We would like to THANK all our veterans here at Strauss Manor and all over the
United States for having served to keep peace and preserve our independence and freedom. ***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Got Gratitude? It's Not Just for Thanksgiving! Having a yearly date set aside to be thankful is a reminder that being grateful everyday matters forboth physical and mental health and well being. Thanksgiving is one of those rare holidays that is generally pretty low key and a day to give thanks and be grateful. Of course, for some it's a day to spend time with friends and family and is an important reminder to be grateful every day. Research has well demonstrated that those who have an ongoing tendency to be grateful experience better physical and psychological health and well being. They tend to be more optimistic, sociable, and engaged in life. They are lesssusceptible to depression, anxiety, anger, and others negativeemotions that can lead to health damaging behaviors and functioning. Being grateful is good for your health. So, as we approach Thanksgiving, what are you grateful for?Can you continue to focus on gratefulness even when the holiday is over? Can you make gratefulness a part of your daily experience? Doing the right thing for yourself and others meansfinding ways to be grateful for all that you have and hold.
Christmas Stocking projectEvery year the residents of Strauss Manor with the funding assistance from our board of directors and community donors, have been providing Christmas Stocking with a stuffed toy to the children who are in thehospital on Christmas Day.
