Purpose of Supply and Sustainability Grants

Supply Grant• Support essential needs of child care providers

that have remained open for business and offer financial support to purchase cleaning and sanitation items for maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

• This grant recognizes the rapid change in recommendations by the CDC and local health departments to include a more rigorous cleaning regimen and assessing for wellness that has led to an increased need for supplies in child care settings.

Sustainability Grant• Support child care businesses, both open or

temporarily closed with plans to re-open, through operational challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic such as disruption of normal operations in both revenue and expenses.

• It is an expectation of the child care providers receiving these funds, to use a portion of the funds received to pay the salaries/wages of staff employed by the program.

Purpose of the Health Care/Emergency Worker Support Bonus

• This one-time bonus is to provide recognition to child care providers and elevate the importance of ensuring that child care options are available to the health care and emergency workforce in Kansas.

• Due to the increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 by caring for children of workers (parents/legal guardians) on the frontlines, a bonus acknowledges the additional protective measures needed to ensure a child care provider can meet the demand of a healthy and safe environment.

Call for the Count Campaign - June 22-28 o Call on neighbors, friends and family to make sure they take part!

Impact and Importanceo If even 1% of the Kansas population is uncounted, the state could miss

approximately $603,990,400 in federal funding over a 10-year period. o So much of the federal aid coming to Kansas - including those for COVID-19 relief

and general early childhood dollars - are directly tied to census counts. o Kansas currently has a 64.7% self-response rate (4% above the nationwide

response). Kudos to Gove, Anderson, and Hodgeman counties for setting self-reporting records!
