Is AI the best investment for FS
TCI Investment Days 17 - 18 December 2012
Yes To feed 9 billion requires production increases Linkages to markets key Linkages to discovery important More food and more income Strengthened innovation demand by smallholders Urbanites benefit
No
Export led production not equal to increased income nor increased consumption Increased costs & vulnerability to price swings Not all can innovate (Cochrane, 1958; and Ekboir, 2011)
Maybe Inclusive innovation focuses on small holders with TA and OD Demand-led innovation funds Providing credit, sharing risk, sustainable instensification of production Incomes matter Territorial development rather than commodity only improvements Today, with rise in prices, focusing on staple foods is useful & beneficial FS programs and extension improvement programs together
