THICKNESS GAUGING SYSTEM I!MENSIO COMPACT

Description:The i!mensio Compact Strip Thickness Gauging System determines the transverse profile over the material width or receives the data for the strip thickness measurement at a continuous production. In traversing operation, the combination of thickness measurement and cross section measurement (used as multiple trace measurement) offers extensive quality information about the quality of the material. Depending on requirements, it automatically controls production processes or evaluate all product-related data communication via interfaces with superordinated QA systems.

Application:The i!mensio Compact Strip Thickness Gauging System is a non-contact traversing system and has been designed for fast-moving steel / metal strips, especially in cold rolling mills. In the strip processing lines the system is used to check the thickness of the material before and after the process, in order to provide default values for the process control. Due to the high sampling frequency up to over 50 kHz, the i!mensio Compact Strip Thickness Gauging System is also used at the flexible roll forming of „Tailored Rolled Blanks“, as well as for punching, roll profiling and tube manufacturing.

Measuring principle: Two encapsulated, high-precision laser distance sensors record the distance to the top as well as to the bottom edge of the material and ensure high measurement accuracy. By usage of special sensors with extra wide spot sizes, possible interference errors are limited to the minimum using the i!mensio Compact Strip Thickness Gauging System.The i!mensio Compact Strip Thickness Gauging System is provided in its reference position with an so-called in-sito calibration to compensate automatically variable temperature effects. Calibration is performed automatically during each reference run and can be freely parameterised via software.

Software:

The HMI * user interface allows easily the switching between the different views by the operator, so as to display the measured valu-es as a large presentation, as stylized cross section or as a trend curve. The target specifications, tolerances and limit requirements as well as the tracking widths may also be entered directly by touch.

The tolerances for the thickness to be measured are defined according to DIN 10051:2011-02. The complete order data to the para-meters can be stored and archived as desired.

The customer-related measurement data can be stored directly as CSV. All data can be processed by using standard software, for example the spreadsheet programs LibreOffice Calc, OpenOffice.org Calc or Microsoft Excel or database systems such as Oracle or MySQL.

StructureThe stable, vibration-resistant construction was designed for robust measurement tasks during 3-shift operation. The laser trian-gulation sensors are mounted in the frame profile and thus protected from external damage. The entire system is further provided with a flush supply. The controller has various interfaces, including Serial, USB, Ethernet, Profibus (optional) and comes by factory default with an extensive software package.
