Our first horizons were established by our founder. His vision, his inspiration, was to see the future growth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As early as 1950, Shaikh Rashed Al Rashed realised that the newly burgeoning wealth of the Kingdom would create radically improved standards of living for all, and the basis for a modern and vital economy. He saw that these goals would involve, and rest on, considerable infrastructure development. Our country would, he recognised, enter a period of far-reaching construction activity. On the basis of this foresight, he established an extensive and fast-growing capability in supply of construction materials and associated prod-ucts and services. Our first companies saw the opportunities to extend customer service and increase business efficiency by entering related trading sectors, such as transport, ship-ping, other services and a variety of industrial products. As these too grew in scale and influence, so Al Rashed emerged to take its place among the pre-eminent indus-trial and commercial conglomerates in the Kingdom.

Our history began in nation-building. And our contribution to our nation’s infrastructure has continued unabated. In many directions, many areas of service and support, our Group companies have helped – and continue to help - to extend the horizons for our country, for its citizens, for their wellbeing and welfare. Our name is well-known wherever infra-structural materials, products, skills and resources combine. We continue to build our nation. We are not merely sup-pliers and distributors of materials. Today we apply our skills to extensive national schemes, in areas such as water and wastewater treatment and reticulation. We are active in civil engineering for large-scale construction projects, other infrastructure and heavy industries. Unusually, in our region, we draw very little of our revenue from the oil sector. Our industrial and commercial operations have, in turn, been joined by other consumer activities, ever moving our horizons outwards. We are a well-known, well-respected name in food and bakery products, with extensive national and regional distribution. But these visible aspects of our Group, and those within our country, are however no longer the limits of our reach, the limits of our horizons.
