As we reflect on all who have donated or pledged to the

2020 Appeal in support of Catholic Charities and the Fund

for the Faith. Thank you for thinking of those most in need

in Western New York and deciding to give them the gift of

comfort, peace, healing, and hope. Together, with your

generous help, we will continue to accomplish wonderful

things! Think of Me. ****We are currently at 75.07% of our parish goal

($31,100.00). If you have given already--THANK YOU,

but if you have not, please consider giving to this

worthy cause (please remember donations to Catholic

Charities cannot be touched by the bankruptcy

proceedings.) **** Appeal ends the end of June.

“The Church, following the example of her

Divine Master, has always had the care of the sick at heart.” ***********************************************

Upcoming Meeting: no meetings this week St. John Neumann Prayer Chain: If you have any

requests for prayers please contact Michelle Schubert

(585-689-0098) or Carol Comstock (585-317-9459) or

Gifts to God

May 9 & 10 – $2030.00 (by mail & drop off at office) God Bless you for your generosity!

**Being that there are no public Masses being held and no

collections be taken, please consider mailing or dropping off your offering. Even though there is no Mass, the monthly bills keep

coming in and we continue to need your support. Thank you. **

A VOCATION VIEW

Today we hear that all people, regardless of where

they come from, are called to dwell in the heavenly

Jerusalem. Christ has appointed people to remind His

children of this, and to help them to live accordingly. If

God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr.

Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535.

.*****************************************************************

Due to the Co-vid 19 pandemic, there will be no masses,

or communion services at our cemeteries this year. We

are very sorry to have to announce this, but we need to

stay safe, Father will remember all the veterans and

faithfully departed in his private mass that day.

Today’s Readings:

Acts 8: 5-8, 14-17 1 Peter 3: 15-18 John 14: 15-21

Today’s readings anticipate the feast of Pentecost, which we will celebrate two weeks from now. Peter and John join Philip in Samaria to make sure that the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit, just as they had in Jerusalem. In the Gospel Jesus promises his disciples that they

will receive the Holy Spirit, who will be another Advocate after his own return to the Father. Listening to today’s readings, let us be aware of

the Holy Spirit’s influence in our lives.

Next week’s readings: Acts 1: 12-14

1 Peter 4: 13-16 John 17: 1-11a

COVID-19 Update: Father Johnson continue to offer his

daily mass privately for the intentions as requested in the

intention book. There are no public masses being said until

further notice. No sacraments are to be administered during

this period as well. Only in grave situations, may a

confession and anointing of the sick be administered.

***Thursday is a Holy Day of obligation—"Feast of

Ascension”—Bishop Scharfenberger has already granted

dispensation to the faithful—due to Covid-19, so no public

mass will be said. ***

A Spiritual Communion Prayer

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the

most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all

things and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart. I

embrace You as if You were already there, and

unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to

be separated from You. Amen.

Stay Home and let me be safe.

The most recent mandate was for a "stay-at-home" measures to exist until??? in New

York State. This means that we cannot expect any Masses or Liturgical Celebration with a normal congregation before that time. Our Churches are permitted to remain

open for private prayer at the discretion of the Pastor. The Pastor retains the right to

limit or forbid such private prayer in his church should he deem it to be a safety or security liability.

• Masses: Nothing has changed since 3/20/2020. NO public celebrations

of Mass or Communion Services. • Confessions: Is ONLY allowed in grave situations as well as Anointing

of the Sick. (Priests may use a cotton-tipped swab or cotton ball as an

instrument to anoint the sick person. The Priest dips the cotton swab in the Oil for the Sick)

• Baptisms: Should be delayed until a time when it is safe again for a con-

gregation to assemble. In case of emergency or danger of death, the

sacrament in basic style may take place (social distancing carefully observed) with the form supplied at a later date.

• Weddings: Should be delayed or postponed if at all possible until it is

permitted for a congregation to assemble. If a wedding does take place,

no more than 10 people present in the church (Social distancing must be

followed). • Funerals: Should be delayed or postponed until it is permissible for a

congregation to assemble. Parishioners should be advised of the possibil-

ity of having a Memorial Mass on a future date when it is safe and

permissible to gather. If a funeral service did take place in a Church, there must be no more than 10 people present and proper social distancing must

be observed. A Priest / Deacon is allowed to have a Vigil / Prayer Service

at a Funeral Home as long as social distancing and safety guidelines are adhered to. It is the responsibility of the Funeral Director to administer

these guidelines. A Priest / Deacon may officiate at a Graveside Service

with distancing precautions observed. • First Reconciliations and First Communions: For parishes who had not

been able to celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion

for the first time with the parish children…. We recommend that this be

postponed until it is permitted to gather as a community. We further

recommend that this be delayed until the Fall Semester of school or whenever students can gather as a class again to review their knowledge

of the Sacrament and to be properly prepared for the reception of

Reconciliation or Holy Communion for the first time by their instructors. • Confirmations: Parishes that had scheduled Confirmations on a calendar

during the first half of the year 2020 should look to reschedule them for a

date when it is deemed safe to gather as a congregation. You may not want

to schedule this date until you know it is safe by government regulations to gather again and with no restrictions on capacity in a Church. It may

be preferable that these Confirmations would take place when school is

back in session in the Fall. The Bishop may grant delegation to the Pastor of the Parish to Officiate at the celebration of the Sacrament of

Confirmation for the qualified Candidates of his Parish once it is possible

to safely do so. The Pastor would specifically request delegation from the Bishop for the Sacrament of Confirmation to be celebrated in his Parish

and the number of those to be confirmed.

Be aware that as conditions improve and when we might be permitted by government

authority to once again gather as a congregation there may be some limits or re-

strictions on such gatherings. Our Diocesan authorities will pay close attention should any such restrictions be mandated and immediately communicate them to you.

• Florida Pastor was arrested for having public service (March 31,

2020). Louisiana Pastor was arrested for having public service (April

21, 2020). Darius G. Pridgen, Pastor of Baptist Church, Buffalo, NY

has tested positive for covid-19. So, I have decided to reschedule my

private Masses. So please do not join the private Masses until the

restrictions are lifted by the Diocese. Stay Home and

Be Safe.
