A SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY – BUT A MUTED CELEBRATION . . .
Our parish is approaching a special anniversary this coming Saturday: Sts. Anne & Joachim parish was founded on
September 5, 1995 – and so it will be our parish's 25th anniversary. For those of you who were here back then, Msgr. Val Gross was
named the first pastor of the "parish without a name" that would be located at the corner of 52nd Ave S and 25th St S – then on the very
edge of town with groves of trees nearby, farm fields, and gravel roads to the south.
The first weekend of Masses at the new parish were held on September 9-10, and it became apparent immediately from that
first weekend that the new parish had a future to look forward to. But there was to be a lot of work to be done before that future was to
be attained . . . And of course, we today in 2020 are part of that future, ourselves now working (and praying) our way as a parish
family, being built up in the Spirit into a family pleasing to Our Father. But it all began 25 years ago this coming week.
I would suppose that "normally" we would have had some kind of parish celebration, but not this year . . . which has now
become the new normal. But that's okay – what's important is that we are here, we are still here, and we are a parish that will strive to
continue to be here for as long as needs be. Our parish foundations were set in September of 1995, the building of the structures were
completed in 2010, but the building up of the Body of Christ here will continue until the day the Lord comes again – and may that day
find this parish ready and expectant!
We will certainly make note of this anniversary at next weekend's Masses, but I ask all of you to offer a prayer for our parish
at this time: a prayer of thanksgiving for 25 blessed years, and a prayer of supplication for many, many more.
* * *
I'm looking for some help in the rectory. For the past number of years Janet McMullen, a member of our parish, has been
taking care of housekeeping chores for us priests who live here – and that's four of us at this time (myself, Fr. Karnik, Fr. Metzger and
Fr. Slattery). Now Janet's being pulled in some different directions and she needs to move on from her service to us – and she has
done a magnificent job keeping the rectory is tip-top clean shape. (It's not always easy with four "bachelors.") So we need a new
housekeeper.
It's a once-a-week job, usually four to five hours. We can be flexible with the hours, but it's better with more consistency
concerning those hours each week. Please contact me if you or someone you know would be interested in this service to our parish
priests. Obviously, confidentiality needs to be observed here: no one needs to know how many chocolate-chip cookies I eat each
week . . .
I do want to thank Janet publicly for her time with us. Our parish's rectory was built during Msgr. Gross' time and is a solid
and fantastic home for the priests who live here, and Janet has done a superb job in keeping it that way.

Stewardship Moment
“What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” - Matthew 16:26 St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God, and nothing else.” We often forget this stewardship wisdom when we spend all of our time, talent and treasure to gain more of the world’s riches. We need to set our priorities based on God’s values and not the values of the material world.

The choir will rehearse on Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the church so we can safely social distance. We will be forming small groups from the big choir to sing at Masses on weekends as the whole choir cannot properly social distance in the choir loft. Rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, September 16. If you are interested in singing with the choir or would like more information, please call Cindy in the parish office.

Catholic Charities Crib Project through September 7 - Catholic Charities North Dakota offers Pregnancy, Parenting and Adoption Services (PPAS). Any person with an unexpected pregnancy can receive services through the PPAS program. When a mom chooses to parent her child, Catholic Charities North Dakota works to help educate and prepare her for her new baby. However, there is often a significant need for supplies to properly care for a new baby.
You can be a part of this important program by helping to supply new or gently used baby items in the crib in the Gathering Space. Diapers and clothes for newborns up to 18 months, baby wipes and cream, bottles, pacifiers, baby wash, infant Tylenol, and blankets are needed. Most other baby items are welcome as well. We ask that no baby food or formula donations be made, babies often need a specific type. Gift cards or financial donations are welcomed to help purchase those items.
Thank you very much for your support of our local moms! If you have questions or want to learn more please visit our website at: www.CatholicCharitiesND.org or call 235-4457.
What is the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)?

Fr. Duchschere leads this program. Sessions include an overview of assigned material, questions, answers, and discussions.
RCIA sessions are held at Church beginning Thursday, September 10, 7 to 9 p.m. Subsequent classes are every Thursday through mid-May 2021, with breaks during holidays. To help us prepare for class, please call Connie Dulany at church (235-5757) to register.
