THE WAIT IS OVER

Perhaps youve already heard news like this often spreads like wildfire as they say Bishop Folda has given the green light to begin public Masses beginning this Monday May 4

We began our Eucharistic fast on March 18 and it lasted almost seven weeks So now we go back to worshiping at the Holy Mass and feeding on the Body of Christ Alleluia

But there are some restrictions as you can well imagine I will highlight some of them here I want to ask you to make sure you read (and re-read if necessary) the letter from Bishop Folda that is included in this bulletin (It is also on the diocesan website)

1) The first thing I wish to highlight is the fact that the faithful are still dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass In other words we still are not obliged to go each Sunday This is applicable for two scenarios in particular at this time

- Those who shouldnt ndash or probably shouldnt - come in If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or exposed to someone who has been you should follow quarantine guidance from medical professionals and not attend Mass if you are at a higher risk from COVID-19 (ie those who are older or have underlying health conditions) are strongly encouraged to stay at home anyone with a cough of any sort and anyone feeling sick should not come to the church for a visit or for any public liturgies or activities

- Those who cant get in Due to social distancing requirements we will be limiting the number of people who can attend Mass at one time If you come and Mass is full and are not able to attend you have other options (see below) but if none of those are possible know that you have not offended the Lord in missing Mass

2) Please ndash practice good hand hygiene and wash your hands properly before you come to Mass know that there is soap and water in all the bathrooms for your use while you are at the church we encourage you to bring your own hand sanitizer if you wish and are able We will not be able to provide hand sanitizer for all who come to Mass

3) Our parish will be having ALL of its Masses ndash both daily and weekend ndash in our main church This will provide enough room for proper social-distancing which our Bishop makes plain still needs to be diligently observed

4) The priests will also be providing opportunities for confession at all the usual scheduled times throughout the week as we have in the past ndash but we will be using the Magnificat Chapel for that sacrament instead of the confessionals as we have been doing for the last few weeks On Saturdays with two priests hearing confessions before the evening Mass we will use the Cry Room as a second confessional please follow the directions on signs and the markings of the floor to provide the proper social distancing while waiting in line

5) For the reception of Holy Communion we will be offering only the Body of Christ and not the Precious Blood ndash knowing of course that it is not necessary to receive both species in order to receive the entire Christ in the Sacrament Also Holy Communion is to be received in the hand only and not on the tongue Please understand this is solely to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus not only to the priests but also to yourself and others who all receive from the same priest after you

6) The Bishop is asking for social distancing at Mass Every other pew will be blocked off so there is room between rows Families may sit near each other if they wish but there must be a six-foot space between all others That will limit the number of people who can attend any particular Mass even in a church as big as ours We have scoped out our church space and our limit for any single Mass will have to be around 300ndash350 people Please keep that in mind Once it has been determined that any particular Mass is full we will close the doors and put signs up indicating that Some options at that point you could try attending another Mass that weekend you could come to one of the weekday Masses to receive your Eucharistic feast - remember the obligation to attend Sunday Mass is dispensed at this time and although our 1230 pm Mass on Sunday has always been the St Bakhita Mass anyone is invited to come and it will be like any of our other Masses at this time

7) We will not be singing at Mass at this time that will help to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets Also we will not be using Eucharistic Ministers (only the clergy will dispensing Communion) servers greeters or ushers at this time ndash they will all be coming back someday

8) The Bishop has also given the okay for Eucharistic Adoration to begin but that will not be happening immediately at our parish Lets get all these new things down first and we will begin Adoration in the future Adoration is such an important part of our parish life but we will wait a bit longer for that

9) Finally know that these directives from Bishop Folda are subject to change at any time depending on how the health crisis continues to play out Lets pray it changes for the better of course

It will be good to see our parish family back together again in our church Fr Karnik and I are looking forward to this as much as any of you Lets keep praying ndash and worshiping Our Lord as He would have us do at Holy Mass and feeding on Him in His Body and Blood Happy Easter
