From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Here we are at the end of January already. I don’t know about you but January went quite fast!! By Wednesday of this week we’ll be beginning February already. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week the priests of the Diocese will be participating in ongoing education and the topic this time will be on medical ethics. Our presenter will be Dr.Kevin Donavan who is the father of Father Sean Donavan, one of our priests. It should be an interesting topic and timely as well. I will be out of pocket then most of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. However, we will continue with the Latin, English, and Spanish Masses each of those days. We will even have the confessions on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. During this week a special Feast falls on Thursday. It is the Feast of the Purification of Mary or in the Ordinary Form the Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple. It is the same Feast but with different names. We have asked that everyone who wants to have some candles blessed to please bring them to the Church today with the name of the family clearly marked so that they can be identified afterwards and returned to the correct family. There will be two Masses in the afternoon that day besides the 8:30 a.m. English Mass. At the 5:00 p.m. Latin Mass the ceremony will begin with blessing of candles and then their distribution at the altar rail. Following the blessing the candles will be lit and there will be a procession around the Church grounds. And then the Mass will begin. The ceremony and Mass will last about two hours. The Spanish Mass will begin at 7:00 p.m. but will commence in the Sr.Jamesetta Room and after a blessing of candles there will be a procession as well before the Mass begins in the main church. By the time this Spanish Mass begins following the procession the Latin Mass congregation should be finished. It will be a little tight but hopefully all will proceed well.

January 29, 2017

And then on Friday of this week, February 3rd we will observe the day as a Day of Reparation for the sins committed against the Sacred Heart. There will be three Masses: 8:30 a.m. school Mass, 5:30 p.m. Latin Mass with Father Parrinello, and 7:00 p.m. Mass in Spanish with Father Elmer. There will also be a Holy Hour for the children beginning at 4:00 p.m. Confessions will be available following the Holy Hour. After the 7:00 p.m. Spanish Mass the all night adoration will commence in the St.Toribio Chapel. On that night the groups of the parish will each participate and take an hour a piece. And they will be permitted to pray out loud on this one night each month. Prayers of reparation are especially appropriate. Reparation prayers to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary will occur throughout the night. And the adoration by the groups will end at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday which will be the First Saturday. Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be done throughout that First Saturday. Following the 8:30 a.m. Mass in English the Padre Pio Prayer Group will meet in the Sr.Jamesetta Room. All are invited after the Mass to get some coffee and donuts and to listen to a presentation on the “art of meditation”. There will also be a Latin Low Mass offered at noon that day by Father Parrinello. We hope you will join us in these wonderful opportunities. Next Sunday Feb. 5th the Latin Mass community will gather after the 10:30 a.m. Mass and celebrate early the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes which falls on Feb. 11th. Again we hope everyone will feel welcome to go to the Cafeteria that day and enjoy a spiritual program for the children and a chance to socialize. God’s blessings on everyone as we begin this new week and on Wednesday the month of February. Sincerely yours, Father Timothy Davison

Three Ways to Obtain an Indulgence for the 100

-Year Fatima Anniversary

For the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, Pope Francis has

decided to grant a plenary indulgence opportunity throughout the entire anniversary year, which began

Nov. 27, 2016, and will end Nov. 26, 2017. The Executive Secretary of the Rectory of the Fatima Shrine in Portugal, André Pereira, explained to

CNA that the plenary indulgence can be obtained during the entire Jubilee Year. There are three ways of obtaining the indulgence, detailed in a statement

on the shrine's website.

1. Pilgrimage to the shrine

The first way is for “the faithful to make a pilgrimage to the Fatima Shrine in Portugal and participate in a

celebration or prayer dedicated to the Virgin.”

In addition, the faithful must pray the Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke the Mother of God.

2. Prayer before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima

The second way applies to “the pious faithful who visit with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniversary of the

apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October (2017), and there devoutly participate in some

celebration or prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary.”

Regarding this second way, the rector of the Fatima Shrine told CNA that the visit to the statue of the Virgin

“does not necessarily have to be only at Fatima or exclusively in Portugal,” but can be done anywhere in

the world.

Those seeking an indulgence must also pray an Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima.

3. Application for the elderly and infirm

The third way to obtain a plenary indulgence applies to

people who, because of age, illness or other serious cause, are unable to get around well.

These individuals can pray in front of a statue of Our

Lady of Fatima and must spiritually unite themselves to the jubilee celebrations on the days of the apparitions,

the 13th of each month, between May and October 2017.

They also must “offer to merciful God with confidence, through Mary, their prayers and sufferings or the

sacrifices they make in their own lives.”
