Key Stage 1, ‘I’m Gonna Shine’ Parent’s and carers were thoroughly
entertained this week by our two KS1
productions of ‘I’m Gonna Shine’. Miss
Rushby’s and Mrs North’s classes
performed two successful renditions of
the show on Tuesday, followed by Mr
Blackwell’s and Miss Mumby’s classes on
Wednesday. Both sets of performances
were excellent and every single
performer shone like the name of the
show suggested. It was clear that the
children had worked very hard to learn
their lines, dances and songs and
enjoyed every moment of their time on
stage. The productions have gotten us
all into the festive mood whilst
reminding us of the true meaning of
Christmas. We are so proud of each
and every child. Thank you to the Year
1 and 2 teaching team for bringing out
the best in all of our children.
Year 3 and 4 Carol Service
On Monday, Years 3 and 4 performed their fantastic
carol concert here in school. Confident and clear
speakers delivered the message of the Christmas story as
well as performing songs about the story. They
performed the Stable Song in a round in four parts and
sang the song perfectly. The proceedings from the ticket
sales were donated to the charity, ‘When You Wish Upon
a Star’ – raising £500 towards granting children with
critical illnesses a wish they so desperately want to
happen. The cheque was presented to Maggie Falconer
from the charity who attended the afternoon
performance. Thank
you to the Year 3 and 4
teaching team for
bringing out the best in
all of our children.
Year 5 and 6 Carol Service at St Lawrence's Church
It was a joy to watch Years 5 and 6 in their Christmas carol concert in the beautiful surroundings of St.
Lawrence’s Church on Thursday. The children entertained parents with a selection of songs and
readings with the important message of kindness, particularly at Christmas time. The theme of
Christmas around the world showed how it is important to be outward looking and curious about our
wider world. The children all delivered their lines with confidence, volume and clarity. Thank you to
the Year 5 and 6 teaching team for showcasing the many talents of our eldest pupils.

Cross Country
On Saturday our cross country team completed
their final race of 3. We’d like to congratulate all
runners that took part in all 3 races. Well done to
the girls who finished in 7th Place and improved
on personal bests each week. Well done to our
boys who finished 10th and 14th and like the girls,
a lot improving on their own personal bests.
However, we would like to add an extra
congratulations to our boys, who were
recognised by another head teacher for their
team spirit. He noticed that as one of our boys
was tripped as they started and 3/4 of our boys
stopped, helped him up and continued with the
race. As the head teacher wrote “ In a world of
win at all costs mentality it was refreshing to
witness this automatic response from the children
at Abbey Primary.” This is something we were
extremely proud to both witness ourselves and
hear from others. Congratulations to all the
children and a huge thank
you to the adults that
supported throughout.
SIGN OF THE WEEK
Please check out our new sign of the week. The
video is on our website or you can ask your child
to show you how to do it.
Parent and Child Running Club This was the Abbey Running Clubs last outing
of 2019 and it was a good one!
Just over 3km of festive fun finished off with
slow cooker hot chocolate, mince pies and
cookies. We were so proud of our young
runners, it's was a fair distance for little legs but
they were brilliant. A massive well done
everyone and thank you to all the adults who
came along each week to support the
children, without you we just couldn't do it.
See you all in 2020, details to follow
in the new year. ♂️ ♀️
Choir Performances The choir entertained the masses yet again
this week, going out to represent our school
twice to perform some festive songs. On
Monday, they went to The Royal Concert Hall
in Nottingham where they performed with a
number of other schools as part of the Inspire
group in ‘An Inspired Christmas’. They
performed a brand new song ‘Show them you
care’ written by Mark De Lisser, a signed
version of the popular carol Silent Night and
took part in a huge performance of the
well-known Wham song ‘Last Christmas’ This
was a fantastic opportunity to perform to a
larger audience in the grandness of the venue
and we received some
excellent feedback from
audience members. On
Thursday, the choir
represented school by
singing to the late night
shoppers at Mansfield’s
Christmas Market.
