Term 3 - Week 6 24th August 2020
K/1 were Mini Olympians as they celebrated Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children's Day. Students participated in a range of TIG (Traditional Indigenous Games) and everyone took home a gold medal! Thanks to Lifetime Connect for supporting this event with some special shirts for our Kinder students!
The Premier’s Debating Competition has gone virtual. Nysa, Blake, Kara and Isabelle competed in the first round as they disputed the topic that Years 5 & 6 students should vote to decide on which books and films they study. Our students were gracious in defeat. Blake, Emily, Mackindi and Sam debated in the second round arguing for the topic that Years 5 & 6 kids should have to cook dinner for their families one night a week. As they won their debate we will no doubt have some very happy parents! I wonder what they will cook for you? Congratulations to all our debaters for their excellent effort and we look forward to the third round on Wednesday. Our students and staff were able to learn a lot about ear health and the Breathe, Blow, Cough, Wash, Chew (BBCWC) program from Mrs Fatnowna, the Itinerant Support Teacher - Hearing for our area.
Mrs Fatnowna presented specialised lessons to each of our classes, sharing her wealth of knowledge and passion about the importance of ear health and hearing. Senior students discovered how important it is to give their ears a break from headphones and earbuds to ensure they have long lasting healthy hearing.
Big School 2020 has begun with a COVID-19 friendly version. Instead of students coming to our school, Miss Kel makes fortnightly visits to the SP Preschool, sharing a morning of fun and learning for children who are preparing to move into Kindy 2021. The Big School program is an important part of helping families, children and staff become familiar with the routines, practices and expectations of school. It gives important information so that staff can support families in understanding their child and their school readiness.
During Week 7 we will be holding our Book Week dress-up day on Tuesday the 1st September. All students and staff are invited to come to school dressed as a favourite book character. A presentation will be led by our new school captains which will also showcase some of the work students have been completing in Library lessons. Most of the presentation will be filmed and photographed for families to view later. The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) theme for 2020 is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.
As we informed parents last fortnight, our current school plan comes to an end in 2020. During Semester 2 we will be conducting a range of surveys for parents and families to provide feedback as part of the consultation process. This week we ask parents to complete an on-line survey developed from Tell Them From Me (TTFM). Please see further information and link over page. Also attached to this newsletter is a paper based survey. Please fill out and ask your child to return to their classroom teacher by this Friday. Yes, that’s two surveys to complete - we will certainly have plenty of data to assist with our future planning.
During Week 8 our school will be celebrating Literacy and Numeracy Week. We all recognise the importance of literacy and numeracy skills and the vital role that parents, community and school have in developing these skills in children and young people. The week will be busy with special activities planned for Home Play and in our classrooms. Please keep an eye out for your family FISHing bag of resources to use at home.
Remember that having a Growth Mindset means that you have to look at old things in a new way! Thank you to our students and parents who are certainly embracing this with all the changes we have had over recent months. Please see attached updated guidelines.
Thanks for your continued support. Tonya M Worling

September! Next month we
will be encouraging all
students to fill their lunchboxes with loads of healthy
meals and snacks packed full of vegetables and fruits.
In Green Team we will be planting heaps of vegetable
seeds and seedlings in preparation for Kids in the
Kitchen to re-start again in Term 4 (fingers crossed).
Messages
During Semester 2 we will be inviting students,
teachers and parents to provide feedback on their
experience of our school using an online survey. The
surveys are an important part of our whole school
evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to
complete the Tell Them From Me
(TTFM) Partners in Learning
survey. As we value the role of parents and carers
within our school community we would greatly
appreciate your feedback. The information you
provide will be used to maintain our commitment to
working together in partnership to further improve
student learning and wellbeing.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately
20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the
parent survey on your computer or mobile device by
using the URL: www.tellthemfromme.com/SPPS
If your child has a health care plan or if there are any changes to your child’s medical condition, please notify the school and your child’s teacher as soon as possible. It’s important that we have the correct information in order to provide the best possible care for the children. All students who have Asthma and Anaphylaxis require a Health Care Plan formulated from a medical practitioner.

Updated Advice_COVID-19 Guidelines_Monday 17th August 2020
I know parents, carers and all our school community will respect the additional restrictions and I thank you in advance. Under the direction of the Department of Education: NSW public schools are operating full time while actively following health advice. From 17th August 2020, the advice states:
In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send
children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms.
Schools will make arrangements for students (and staff) who present as unwell or have flu like
symptoms to be sent home.
Students (and staff) who are absent or sent home due to flu like symptoms need to be tested
and must not return to school until they return a negative COVID-19 result and are symptom-
free.
Schools must sight the negative COVID-19 test result before students (and staff) return to
school.
If parents believe their child has a condition which means it’s not safe for them to return to
school, they need to provide a medical certificate.
Students who live with a family member identified as at higher risk should attend school unless
a doctor advises otherwise. The parent/carer should provide written confirmation from the
doctor stating the student is unable to attend school and for what period of time.
Schools continue to be safe and operations are in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health advice. All students should be learning at school unless:
• they have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an
ongoing medical condition and the expected timeframe or
• they are currently unwell.
Schools are not required to conduct widespread temperature screening or mandate the wearing of a
mask.
All schools continue to be vigilant when implementing infection control, physical distancing and personal hygiene protocols to protect the health and safety of students and staff. Schools promote good hygiene practices such as:
regularly washing hands
avoiding sharing drinks or food
coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately
bringing water bottles from home. Activities on hold for Term 3
Kindergarten orientation
Year 7 orientation has been delayed until Term 4.
School camps
Parent/carers and other non-essential visitors are not allowed on the school site
All group singing and/or other chanting activities, as well as the use of wind instruments in group settings.
School formals, graduation or other social events are not permitted

School Planning Process – 2020-2024 Stuarts Point Public School
Dear Parents
The staff at Stuarts Point Public School appreciate that, as parents of children attending our school,
you want your children to be successful, lifelong learners for the 21st Century; highly literate and
numerate. We know you believe in the value of a holistic education that ensures your child reaches
his/her full potential.
With this in mind, we would like your assistance with identifying our school's priority areas for
inclusion in the 2021-2024 Stuarts Point Public School Plan.
Information obtained from this survey will be compiled, along with student, community and staff
input to guide the future directions of our school.
Would you please complete the following anonymous survey at your earliest convenience or by this
Friday 28th Aug and ask your child to hand it to their class teacher.
Thanking you
Tonya Worling
