CLASS FAREWELL ANOTHER GREAT MOMENT IS HERE!

JERRY COLLINS Tr s ,, •

MISS CAMPBELL

WE, BELMONT'S conspicuous class of Winter 1938, are graduating. We've become so attached and devoted to you Belmont, old dear, that it is with pathos we go. Our stay has been joyfully pleasant. But now we must leave . Forward we march, perhaps overly bumptious, proudly flashing our colors, dubonnet and grey. Up we step an-other rung in our ladder, knowing full well this is not the last rung. We will climb till our hearts cease t o beat. We believe, we hope, our virtures have outnumbered our vices. If ever we were disrespectful in our predatory desire for learning, or in our giddy spells (yes, we 've had them) forgive us; we are young and enthusiastic and sometimes realize not what we do. We have not been perfect. You wouldn't have liked u:; if we had-we would have been such prigs. You have had many classes, and know us pretty well. We have been known to ditch and deceive· but, truly, we meant no harm. It was just our frivolous, vivacious youthfulness out of control. You saw that. We distinguished ourselves in scholarship and athletics. You inspired us, and strengthened our wings. We were with you through what are probably the most important three years of our lives. You were sympathetic and patient sometimes stern and authoritative. We may have been resentful, but usually we knew deep down that your judgment was best. We go to futur·ty each taking h"s own path. L"fe s road holds so m ch for us. You enriched and fed our lives. We or gra efu for that. A og abo W pe meda ou w I b abe o brag about us Belmont we w· I honor you!

EPHEBIAN OATH OF ALLEGIANCE "We will never bring disgrace to this our city, by any act of dishonesty or cowardice, nor ever desert our suffering comrades in the ranks ... We will fight for the ideals and sacred things of the city, both alone and with many ... We will revere and obey the city's laws and do our best to ·ncite a like respect in those above us who are prone to annul or set them at naught. We will strive unceasingly to qu'cken the publ'c sense of civic duty ... Thus, in all these ways we will transmit this city not only not le s but far greater and mor be tiful than it was transmitted to us." This ·s a translafon of the oath wh"ch anc nt Athens requ r d Epheb1ans.
