STUDENT COUNCIL ASSEMBLY
On 14th of August, the MYP possibly had the most important assembly of the year, the Student Council
election canvassing speeches. We started our assembly with the current Vice-President addressing the
crowd. Everybody was excited to listen to the speeches of all the candidates standing for President and
Sports Captain. Only the Grade 11 students are allowed to compete for these posts
After this, we dispersed to venues allotted for each House where we would hear the rest of the speeches
of students who were contesting for House Captain and Vice-captain. There was a lot of buzz and
excitement as the students were trying to gauge the best contestant from their speeches.
Since I am contesting for Vice Captaincy of Emerald House, I worked hard on my speech. Hope I was able
to impress the audience. I will be putting up the posters soon as a part of the campaign. Overall, it was a
great experience. I can’t wait for the day of the election. Wishing all the candidates the very best.

CELEBRATIONS ALL THE WAY!!!
There are many benefits of celebrating festivals and events with young children…
The joy and happiness of celebrating festivals plays a highly significant role in the lives of children
nurturing their sense of identity, values and beliefs.
The EYP students and teachers had planned a double celebration for the 14th of August, as this year
Independence Day coincided with Janmashtmi. Students participated in the celebration with great
fervor and gusto. They came to school dressed as freedom fighters or soldiers. We started the day
celebrating 71 years of India’s Independence and proudly sang our national anthem. The teachers
performed a short skit on MAHATMA GANDHI -THE FATHER OF OUR NATION.
After singing and dancing to patriotic songs, the first session ended with a hands on activity of making
a tricolour take away object. But that was not all! The celebration continued in the latter half of the
day with our little Govindas skillfully doing their job of 'Matki fod' celebrating the birthday of Lord
Krishna. They enjoyed listening to the story of Krishna’s birth in jail and his naughty pranks played on
the village women to get hold of the delicious butter made by them which they would otherwise sell
in the city of Mathura. Each and every child 's day ended with a sense of pride on learning of their
culture and nation. These little experiences help children to interact and develop their social skills.
They also learn to value another person's culture and belief in a world which is so diverse and yet so
vibrant.

PYP Happy Birthday India!
Happy Birthday India!
Grade 1
Although, my hands are very small.
I made this fag to fly for all.
I might be too young to understand.
But I know these colours are something grand.
The Orange, white and Blue,
Forever stand!
This is how students of grade 1 celebrated their independence day.....
Students came dressed in any colour of the Indian flag or as a National leader. They saw few videos about the supreme sacrifice the great martyrs gave for the sake of freedom.
They also realized that the freedom was very precious and it was very necessary to preserve it.
The students recited rhymes with a lot of enthusiasm and happiness. The bright smile on their faces
captivated all. The students of the school presented a dance on the song.
Young Indians drew pictures on ‘Independence Day’ and prepared tri-coloured flags with great
interest. This was followed by a short speech which they prepared by their own.
The celebration was concluded with the ‘National Anthem’.

Dressed up in the famous leader's attire with the hat, Aahan spoke about Bhagat Singh.

PYP Happy Independence Day! Indeed A Proud Moment.
August 15th is the most important day in the history of India. On this fortunate day our country became
free after many centuries. The British left India with bag and baggage.
In school, we celebrated this day with great zeal. Children came to school in different attire (i.e. Indian
flag colour clothes). Each one of them was eager to take part in the Independence Day Celebration. They
prepared speeches and sang a few patriotic songs, including the national song and the national anthem.
They provided information regarding the pre independence time and also shouted “bharat mata ki jai”
and “jai hind” on top of their voices to show their enthusiasm for this day. Two students became
Narendra Modiji and Soldier and prepared different speeches related to their roles. We also showed a
movie called “Mithi”, which portrayed humanity, love, and respect for each other and the country.
It was a day of joy, a day to love and respect our country. The children had a great time being part of this
celebration.

PYP INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION DAY AT RBK
We celebrated Independence Day at school on 14th August, as the 15th was declared as holiday. 70 years
of Independence from the British Raj were celebrated with zeal and spirit befitting the occasion.
The children were seen carrying the Indian tricolor flag in huge numbers. Our Grade 4A and 4B students
came dressed as freedom fighters or in the colors of the flag, and the confidence with which they spoke
about the characters they represented or about the significance of this day was amazing. The speech
describing the valor of Rani Laxmi Baiwas was indeed very inspiring.
4A had a “quiz” activity in the library, a very fun way for students to show all their enthusiasm and
patriotism, and at the same time an opportunity to exhibit what they know about his day.
In 4B the students held a debate about whether we should be proud of our independence, an activity
that deepened our understanding of the celebration and urged today's generation to value the freedom
we have secured after the sacrifices of many.
Both divisions commemorated this day with different art activities, including coloring and writing speech
bubbles for characters about the rights and responsibilities of citizens, hence connecting the
Independence Day activities to our present unit on “Government Systems”.
And last but not the least, we watched a motivational video about the Indian army, enjoyed by one and
all.

MYP-IBDP International School Award - Visit to Nisargruna Biogas Plant
On the 11th of August we visited Nisargruna Biogas Plant at BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre).
Thirteen of us made a visit there because we are part of a team that is making a Skype call to students
in Australia in which our focus is Biofuels. Dr. Nutan from Techonology Transfer and Collaboration
division guided us through the whole plant. We saw the whole process of how biogas was made. It was
like all research done by us come to real life. The plant was quiet fascinating. We really learnt a lot.
There were some ideas like the floating dome in which the gas was stored. It was floating because in
case of pressure development the gas has some place to escape. In the end before we left we had tea
that was made using biofuel instead of regular gas!
