Student Uniform & Dress Code The P & C Association has resolved that it supports a student dress code policy for Alexandra Hills State High School because it believes that a dress code policy promotes the objectives of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, and in particular that it: Promotes a safe environment for learning by enabling ready identification of students and non- students of the school Promotes an effective teaching and learning environment by eliminating the distraction of competition in dress and fashion at the school Promotes a sense of common purpose and belonging, consistency and unity in the daily activities of students Fosters mutual respect among individuals at the school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social differences All students require an everyday uniform for normal class activities as well as for excursions or community- development activities unless otherwise stipulated. In addition, students will require a sports uniform for sports and Health and Physical Education classes. Students should wear their uniform correctly and with pride in all locations. Even when wearing the school uniform outside the school grounds, students are always representing Alexandra Hills State High School. Student Uniform & Dress Code The P & C Association has resolved that it supports a student dress code policy for Alexandra Hills State

High School because it believes that a dress code policy promotes the objectives of the Education (General

Provisions) Act 2006, and in particular that it:

Sports Uniform – Gender-Neutral

Worn to and from school ONLY on the following days:

Year 7: Thursday Years 8 / 9: Tuesday Years 10 / 11 / 12: Wednesday

Boys’ Hair

Neat, clean, tidy, short (above the collar, off the face, out of the eyes)

Students are expected to have a uniform length haircut

Students are not to wear extremes hairstyles such as undercuts, rat tails, dreadlocks, cornrows, pony-

tails, ‘man buns’, shaved sections, tracks, shaved eyebrows etc.

Hair must be one natural colour

Girls’ Hair

Shoulder-length hair must be tied back with a ribbon or scrunchy in school green or gold

Hair to be pinned away from the face

Students are not to wear outlandish hair colours or styles, no shaved sections, no shaved eyebrows

Hair must be natural-looking in colour

Jewellery

No rings, bracelets or necklaces

Girls: one pair of small plain gold or silver studs or sleepers in the lower lobe of the ear

Oversize or dangling earrings are not permitted

Boys: no earrings

All students are to wear a watch, if possible

Visible Piercings

Other than one pair of earrings in the lower lobe of the ear, visible piercings are not permitted

Facial piercings are not permitted, even if clear or covered with a ‘band-aid’

Students with additional piercings are required to remove them before coming to school

Students with other visible piercings will need to remove the object concerned or will be sent home

until they can remove the object

Rugby League and Basketball Academy training uniforms must be worn at Academy sessions only

Makeup / Facial Hair

No make-up is to be worn to school including foundation, lip gloss, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara

No coloured nail polish is to be worn with school uniforms

Boys are to be clean shaven at all times

Shoes

The only acceptable shoes

are black (no coloured

emblems, stripes, laces,

etc.), fully enclosed,

leather, lace-up, polished

shoes or joggers

Either black, leather, lace-

up, traditional school shoes

or black leather joggers can

be worn with the everyday

uniform

All shoes must comply with

Workplace Health and

Safety Standards and

under NO circumstances

are students to wear shoes

with zips, slip-on ballet

style shoes, high-tops or

fashion boots

Students who do not have

the correct footwear will

be unable to participate in

many subjects – especially

practical subjects

Sports shoes – predominantly black leather joggers to be worn with sports uniform

Specialist sport shoes must only be worn on the field/court, during lessons

General Appearance

Damaged uniforms need to be repaired promptly – no safety pins or staples please

Boys’ day shirts are ALWAYS to be worn tucked INTO shorts, unless wearing the new-style junior shirt

T-shirts are not to be worn under blouses or shirts

No underwear is to be visible or exposed at any time
