ABOUT JAMES COOK UNIVERSITY

James Cook University is Australia's leading tropical research university. It takes its name from the 18th century British navigator and explorer Captain James Cook. Cook's epic voyages in the southern hemisphere contributed signi�cantly to the world of science.

The University was proclaimed in Townsville on 20 April 1970, and has grown into a tri-city university with its major campuses located in the vibrant tropical northern Queensland cities of Townsville and Cairns and in Singapore.

James Cook University is a high-ranking research university with a strong focus on the tropics. It enjoys an international pro�le, maintained and promoted through linkages with universities and research institutions worldwide.

James Cook University is a member of the Innova-tive Research Universities Australia, a recognized peak body amongst research universities in Australia. Academics from James Cook University won 7 Australia Learning and Teaching Council (CALC) citations for excellence in 2008. Only 5 other Australian universities received more than 7 citations.

JCU SINGAPORE - Established in 2003JCU Singapore (registered as James Cook Australia, Institute of Higher Learning in Singapore) is fully owned by James Cook University Australia.

The university established JCU Singapore in 2003 as part of its expressed intent of internationalising its activities and in pursuit of its vision of “Creating a brighter future for life in the tropics world-wide through graduates and discoveries that make a di�erence”. The university is ranked in the top 4%* of universities in the world and is the leading tropical research university in Australia. It o�ers a suite of university level programs at the JCU Singapore campus.

JCU Singapore has two campuses located at 600 Upper Thomson Road and 10 Ang Mo Kio St. 54. The campuses provide students with access to a full range of facilities and services to support their learning. Facilities include lecture and seminar rooms, a fully equipped library, computer laboratories, an onsite bistro and access to a variety of sporting facilities.

All courses are registered with the Council for Private Education (Registration No. 200100786K) andour operations are governed by EduTrust. Since 2008, we have achieved the Singapore Quality Class accreditation.

JCU Singapore provides the opportunity for international and local students to earn a “real Australian degree” without leaving Singapore.

TOWNSVILLE CAMPUS established in 1970James Cook University's largest campus with around 11,000 students including approximately 1,500 international students is located in a peaceful 386-hectare setting of natural bush and parkland full of native Australian �ora and fauna. The campus is nestled in the residential suburb of Douglas, close to the Ross River, 13 kilometers from the city centre.

CAIRNS CAMPUS established in 1986The study experience at the Cairns campus is enhanced by its stunning natural setting surrounded on three sides by rainforest covered mountains. The campus is situated in Smith�eld, 15 kilometers north of the city centre, near the northern beaches area of Cairns. With over 4,000 students enrolled, including 300 international students, the campus is served by regular buses to the city centre and nearby residential areas.

In this country you will �nd a diverse population of Chinese, Malay, Indian and other ethnic groups, covering a wide spectrum of religions, cultures, and languages, living harmoniously together. The synergistic mix of ethnic groups o�ers international students a wide spectrum of choices for living and playing in Singapore.

Singapore has a warm and humid climate all year around, with temperatures ranging from 23 to 33 degrees centigrade. Sunshine is the norm, with occasional rain, especially during the year-end periods. Singapore's safety, low crime rates, and high standards of living are well renowned, o�ering you an ideal environment for study. When it's time to put away the books, myriad sports, entertainment, and other fascinating sights and sounds are available to relax your mind and �ll your senses.

Seamless accessibility to all parts of the island is available in this country, often recognized for its quality and e�cient land transport system. The introduction of EZ-link card – a contactless stored value card where consumers need only �ash the card in front of a card reader that automatically deducts the required travel fare, is an example of the continuous commitment by the government to make travel faster and easier.

JCU SINGAPORE SERVICES AND FACILITIESJCU Singapore has two campuses. The Upper Thomson Campus is located at 600 Upper Thomson Road about 8 kilometers north of the city on a site totaling 1.8 hectares. The Ang Mo Kio Campus is located at 10 Ang Mo Kio St 54. You will be able to get to the campus by both public and private transport. The campus o�ers a full range of facilities and services to support your learning. These include:

Food and BeveragesWe have our own cafeteria o�ering Chinese, Indian, and Western options. The cafeteria is open from 8am to 7.30pm (Mon - Fri) and 8am to 2pm (Sat). Vending machines for snacks and hot/cold beverages are available around the campus. In addition there is drinking water freely available. These eating and drinking options are supplemented by a variety of food courts and restaurants within easy walking distance.

Library All our international students enjoy a free 1-year membership with the National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore. The NLB has 19 public libraries spread throughout Singapore. In addition we have our own library which provides you with access to more than 3,000 reference books. And our library is connected to JCU Australia libraries providing you with access to a multitude of e-journals and online publications through the library web portal.

Computing ServicesOur campus has been designed as a wireless environment which gives you access to the cyber world at any time, any place within the compound. In addition, if you are a full fee paying student and enrolled for more than one semester you will be provided with a free laptop as a study aid. It's easier than ever for you to access your accounts and get on with the business of learning.

Counselling Services & Psychology ClinicThe Student counselling team provides an advisory and counselling service for all students. In addition, as part of our psychology program we operate an onsite Psychology clinic which is managed by professional Psychologists. This is available to you free of charge (if required).

Careers Service CentreThe Careers Service provides a quality 'education to employment' assistance program for students. Students receive individual Careers Counselling, take part in Employability workshops, search for job vacancies and browse the Careers Library. It is our goal to facilitate your successful transition from education to employment.

Sports and WellnessThe campus boasts a variety of sporting facilities including basketball, table tennis, football, and cricket. Equipment is available for your use. Please approach our campus activities sta� for more information. Shower facilities are also available in main teaching block.

Clubs and SocietiesThere are a number of clubs and societies available to you including language, drama, dance, and volunteers' clubs. In addition we have the EVO Society for psychology students, and local chapters of the Singapore Computer Society (SCS), and Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers. Student LockersThere are lockers of various sizes available (on a rental basis) for your use. Please see our library sta� when you arrive if you are interested in the long or short term rental of a locker.

Accommodation ServicesOur accommodation service provides assistance and advice to help you understand your accommodation options. On arrival most students choose to stay in an o� campus student hostel (which we arrange) while they consider their long term requirements. The choice is always yours but a student hostel does provide a good level of accommodation at a reasonable cost and gives you the time you need to make a well informed decision on long term accommodation.

Airport Meet and GreetOur meet and greet sta� will meet you at the airport when you arrive. You will need to complete the arrival noti�cation form and email it to us at least one week prior to your arrival date.

Orientation An orientation program for all new students occurs in the week prior to the commencement of your �rst semester. This comprehensive program includes information about enrollment, important administrative procedures and familiarisation with campus facilities and services.

Admissions Procedures

STEP 3Receive a Letter of O�er, Standard Student Contract, and

Advisory Note if your application is successful.

STEP 2Submit your completed Application Form, supporting

documents and application fee.

STEP 1Select the course of your choice.

STEP 5Wait while we submit your Student pass application to

Immigration for approval.

STEP 6Receive the in-principle approval letter. Pay the �rst installment

of tuition fees and other fees stipulated in Student Contract. Arrange accommodation and airport collection.

STEP 7Arrive in Singapore, report to University, have medical

check up and complete immigration formalities.

STEP 8Attend orientation and con�rm enrolment.

STEP 9Start classes, take advantage of campus opportunities

and transform your future.

STEP 4Return signed Letter of O�er and Standard

Student Contract and pay the �rst installments of tuition fees and other fees stipulated.

JCU Singapore has two campuses:

The Upper Thomson Campus is located at 600 Upper Thomson Road. There are direct buses from all over Singapore to the campus: bus numbers 163, 167, 169, 855 and 980.

Ang Mo Kio Campus is located at 10 Ang Mo Kio St. 54 . Bus no 265 from Ang Mo Kio Interchange will alight near this campus.

The nearest MRT to both the campuses is Ang Mo Kio.

JCU Singapore is EduTrust Certi�ed. The EduTrust certi�cation scheme is administered by the Council for Private Education (CPE), a statutory board formed in 2009. EduTrust requires all students to be covered under a Fee Protection Scheme. In JCU Singapore, this is provided through an insurance protection scheme. Further, EduTrust also requires that the students must be covered under a medical insurance coverage which has provision for hospitalisation, surgery and treatment costs throughout their course duration. JCU Singapore will advise in the Standard Student Contract the total amount of insurance payable.
