FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q WHICH STUDENTS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR AN IB SCHOLARSHIP?A The IB Scholarship is offered to both current and prospective students enrolling for the 2018-19 academic year. The scholarship is not limited to full-diploma candidates. To be eligible, students must plan to take at least four IB courses, and all required assessments and exams for those courses, during their 11th and 12th grade years.

Q HOW MANY IB SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED?A We will award up to four scholarships to current and/or prospective students for the 2018-19 academic year. The application, review, and evaluation processes are the same for new and returning students.

Q WHAT IS THE AMOUNT OF EACH SCHOLARSHIPA The amount of the scholarship is $7,500. The funds support fees and travel for summer study, with the additional funds, if unspent, available for use towards the 2019-20 tuition balance.

Q IS THIS A ONE-TIME AWARD?A Yes, but it will span both junior and senior years. No re-application is required.

Q HOW WILL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS BE SELECTED?A Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of multiple criteria. While a strong academic record is important, so are above-average recommendations from teachers, demonstrated involvement in school and community, and accomplishments in athletics and/or the arts. Essay questions and a resume of activities and awards is also part of the evaluation process. A scholarship applicant will be evaluated with these well-rounded attributes in mind. The scholarship applications are reviewed by an outside committee of business and community partners. The application, review, and evaluation processes are the same for new and returning students.

Q HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP?A Interested students should complete the application for the IB Scholarship prior to their junior year, in accordance with published deadlines. If the student is not currently enrolled at Harrisburg Academy, then the application for admission is also required. All documents are available from the Admission office and via the Academy’s website.

Q WHAT IS THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE?A Applications submitted by June 11, 2018, will be considered for the 2018-19 academic year.

Q WHEN WILL APPLICANTS BE NOTIFIED OF SELECTION?A The selection committee’s decisions will be communicated to all applicants in August 2018.

Q CAN STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE THE IB SCHOLARSHIP ALSO RECEIVE NEED-BASEDFINANCIAL AID DOLLARS FROM THE ACADEMY?

A Yes. Acceptance of an IB Scholarship does not eliminate a family from consideration for need-based assistance. The amount of an IB Scholarship will not change in the event that need-based financial assistance is also awarded.

Q ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR IB SCHOLARS?A Yes. Students receiving the IB Scholarship will be required to speak at a total of three events, such as an Upper School Morning Meeting, Admission Open House or Alumni Event, during their junior and seniors years, to share their summer student with classmates, parents, faculty, and community members. Students will also be asked to collaborate with Academy administrators for communications efforts documenting and promoting their experiences in our various forms of media. Students receiving the IB Scholarship are also required to maintain a strong academic record with a minimum 3.3 GPA and on-time completion of Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) hours.
