CarEEr and COunSELLinG CEntrEWe want you to be successful. Our mandate is to provide services that will help you overcome whatever barriers to your success you may encounter whether they are personal, career or academic in a safe and supportive environment. Our services are confidential, and free for all registered Centennial College students.

Professional counsellors on each campus offer: short-term, solution-focused personal •counselling which helps you address issues such as anxiety, stress management, grief and loss, relationship issues, and crisis interventionskilled referrals to appropriate community •agencies or other professionals when neededcareer assessments where a counsellor works •with you to help you explore careers and career possibilities. That way, you can make an informed decision on the career path that is best suited to your interests and goalsstudy skills workshops and one-on-one •academic advising that help you make the transition into college smoothly.

CEntrE fOr StudEntS WitH diSaBiLitiESCentennial is committed to providing the best possible education for all of our students. This includes meeting the needs of students with disabilities who may require adjustments or accommodations for their success.

The Centre for Students with Disabilities serves as an advocacy centre for students. The staff work with students with disabilities who either identify themselves or are referred by faculty members or outside agencies. Official documentation of a disability is required to determine what kind of aids or adaptations may be helpful.

If you have a disability (e.g. learning, medical, psychiatric, physical, visual, hearing, mobility or ADD/ADHD) that requires academic accommodation, it is important to contact the Centre for Students with Disabilities as soon as possible so that the appropriate arrangements can be made.

Note: Your high school records do not automatically transfer to college.

What you Will need to Bring With you to your appointmentIf you require academic accommodations, we will need documentation as early as possible. Documentation includes psychological reports/assessments, information from your medical doctor and any other information that explains the nature of your disability and the strategies/accommodations you have used.

We can also provide information on targeted programmes for those with education from other countries, some of which may lead to a Canadian credential in as little as eight months/one year.

aSSESSmEnt CEntrEHave you been asked to write a language or math assessment?

The Assessment Centre at Progress campus is responsible for the administration of College skills assessment for admission and placement purposes. Our services are offered on an appointment basis and can be booked online at http://www.centennialcollege.ca/future/bookingassessment.jsp or by calling 416-289-5300.

If you live 150 kilometres or further from our campuses, you may still access our services in your home town through off-site testing. For an application for this service or for more information, please contact the Off-site Assessment Administrator at 416-289-5000, ext. 2597, or e-mail: [email protected]

If you require our services for another institution, we will be happy to provide supervised exam invigilation. To arrange an appointment, a listing of fees or a description of our facility, please contact the Scheduling Administrator at 416-289-5000, ext. 2596.

StudEnt rELatiOnS OffiCEThe Student Relations Office offers formal and informal support to students involved in conflict with another member of the College community.

The Student Relations Office can:provide a supportive space for students to talk •about specific disputes involving other students, faculty or staffcoach students on how to improve their •communication, problem solving and negotiation skillsanswer questions about College processes such •as grade appeals and cheatinghelp students navigate the college system •and refer students to appropriate person/departmentprovide and facilitate a neutral forum for parties •in conflict to discuss issues

rECrEatiOn aCtivitiES The AWC (Athletics and Wellness Centre) at the Progress campus will feature a triple gym, cardio fitness area, aerobics/wellness studios, indoor track, climbing wall, squash courts and a spa. The Ashtonbee campus gym programs instructional, recreational and intramural activities. The Centennial Science and Technology Centre campus has a weight/fitness room available throughout the day and the Centre for Creative Communications campus students have membership privileges at an off campus private health club. Full-time Centennial students must have a valid student card to access facilities.

rECrEatiOnaL/intramuraL aCtivitiESAn important part of campus life is your participation in recreational activities. Intramural leagues and instructional programs are an excellent way to meet new friends, get in shape and provide a balance from the demands of the classroom. Instructional, intramural and special events are scheduled around timetables to maximize participation.

Looking for a part-time job? Please drop by the AWC to pick-up an application for positions as conveners, game officials, referees, fitness instructors or facility attendant.

varSity atHLEtiCSCentennial College is a member of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. Full-time student athletes, interested in competitive intercollegiate sports, are invited to try out for any of the following teams. League schedules and practice times are posted in the AWC and available at centennialcollege.ca

men’s and women’s basketball•men’s and women’s soccer (outdoor and indoor•season)badminton. •

Varsity student athletes are provided with equipment, uniforms, game transportation and meal subsidies plus an Athletic Therapist is on staff.

aCadEmiC/atHLEtiC aWardSA limited number of academic/athletic financial awards are offered to varsity student athletes that have combined athletic excellence with academic achievement. Additional consideration will be given to student athletes with financial need. Contact the Athletics and Recreation Department for information. 416-289-5000, ext. 2205

ExtramuraL SpOrtSIce hockey, volleyball, cricket and basketball are examples of Centennial extramural teams that participate in tournaments against other colleges and universities. An extramural team is typically an intramural league champion, however developing sports have an expanded schedule. For further information please drop by the AWC or log on to centennialcollege.ca.

pLaCEmEnt adviCE fOr StudEnt SuCCESS (paSS)Centennial College is committed to student success. In order to help applicants become successful college students, we provide program placement advice and assistance to applicants who are denied admission to college programs.

If you apply to a College program but are unable to obtain an offer of admission, you may discuss your situation with staff from the PASS Office. We will help you to understand the reasons you were not offered admission to the program of your choice, and assist you in planning to meet your educational objectives.

The staff from the PASS Office may contact you, or you may contact us by calling 416-289-5000, ext. 7277 or e-mail [email protected] to arrange an appointment. We will be happy to help.
