Student Magazines

Page 2: Student Magazines

This magazine uses bright colours on the masthead, it has articles linked to the university and its activities, and a main article about a director to attract readers. It doesn't use big headings on the cover lines to catch the eye and it isn’t on the left third, you wouldn’t notice it if it was sitting on a self. This is advertise to students of its own university, and it would properly be only read by them, teachers and future students.

This magazine uses a wider range of articles, e.g. music, lifestyle, and not necessarily college/university subjects. It uses bright colours on the masthead as well as the cover lines. They use more relaxed people on they front cover. Compared to the other magazine, this on would attract a bigger audience.

They use a photo of happy smiling students.

This magazine looks quite busy, with the bright pink and black used to box the cover lines. The front isn’t completely on the left third, it uses strange story's from real life to attract the audience, it also links back to the slogan ‘ Realty Bites Back'.

Its masthead ‘tell!’ which is serif, and reminds me of font on a type writer, within a speech bubble. The whole magazine looks modern and young using bright colours and slanted cover lines.

This magazine is more simple compare to ‘tell!’ magazine, it hasn’t got any cover lines, but the main article. It list the subjects in the magazine along the bottom: music, fun, TV, theatre, art, entertainment, comedy.

It relies on the main article to attract an audience, using the photo of the band to take up the whole cover.

My favourite magazines

The doctor who magazine doesn’t laid out on the left third, but it does have a specific audience. It uses photos that are placed in the centre, with the characters faces in the middle. I like that some of the images overlap the masthead. The certain colours are use on the covers that are linked back to the photo e.g. who is Matt Smith, uses blue form the photo back ground, for the colour of cover lines, and selling line. With end of the line, they do the same but with the red from the bus.

SFX lays out some editions on the left third. Same with the Doctor who magazine overlaps photos with the title.

Its front cover is influenced by they main feature article, e.g. the Star trek issues uses blues and carries on the theme of the teleportation, the watchman issues uses dirty wall, as the background. The x files issue uses a florescent green. This attracts readers who are interested or a fan of these comics, films, and TV programs.

My ideas.

I am planning to use two or three colours on my cover, that are used in the main photo, but I’m going to have the masthead a different colour so it will stand out against the cover line. I don’t want it to disappear against the cover lines.
