Perth is located alongside the peaceful waters of the Swan River in Western Aus-tralia (WA), and has quickly gained global recognition for its robust economy, clean sandy beaches, diverse lifestyle and cosmo-politan feel.

The state of WA offers a truly authentic Australian experience, offering long days of sunshine, a mild Mediterranean climate with gorgeous blue skies and brilliant beaches.

Perth boasts a wide selection of restau-rants and cafes, cinemas, nightclubs, and music venues as well as great shopping. The warm sunny climate is also perfect for sporting and leisure activities – everything from tennis to golf through to whale watch-ing and sailing.

Shared Accommodation

In shared accommodation you will have your own bedroom but will share household responsibilities (cleaning, laundry, cooking etc.) with your flat mate. Generally you will buy your own food and will share the cost for services like electricity, telephone inter-net etc.

Rental Accommodation

This type of accommodation will provide you complete independence. Rental prop-erties are advertised on the Real Estate In-stitute of Western Australia (REIWA) web-site and in Perth’s local newspapers. You will sign a legal contract with the landlord or the real estate agency to rent a house or an apartment.

Most properties are unfurnished; you will need to purchase electrical items, fur-niture, bedding and kitchen utensils. You will usually need to pay four weeks’ rent upfront (known as bond) as well as cov-er the costs for connecting the electricity, gas, telephone and internet. Some furnished apartments and houses are also available

Homestay

Homestay means living with an Australian

family for all or part of your study period.Single or shared rooms are available. Meals are usually included, but cheaper self-ca-tering homestay is available. You can use the family home at leisure; however there are rules that you will need to follow. More information on homestay can be accessed through student support.

Youth hostels

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

You will need your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE)which you will have received from the college.

Arrange for immunisations and/or medication from your doctor. Have your eyes tested and a dental check-up.

Check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months prior to your entry arrival in Australia, and that you have all your visa documentation. It is also a good idea to make copies of your passport in case you lose your passport.

You should also consider travel insurance, which covers things your OSHC may not – such as cancelled flights, lost documents, dental or optical care, etc.

Make sure you are aware of the date and time of your flight. Keep your flight details in a safe and secure place, with your passport and visa.

You may want to have a list of emergency contact details for family, as well as your embassy, accommodation and college details. If you have used an ed-ucation agent, keep their contact details on you, in case you need to contact them once you arrive in Australia.

Whether you are taking public transport, a taxi, or you are being picked up from the airport by college, it is important that you have all the details including the time, the route and, if your travel has been arranged by the col-lege, their contact details. If you need a map to assist you in getting to your accommodation from the airport, they will be available at the airport, or you can print one prior to leaving.

Make sure you have the address of where you will be staying as well as their phone number and payment confirmation (if you have already paid for your accommodation).

There are money exchange places available at Australian airports and in cities, but it is recommended to have some Australian currency on you prior to leaving your home country. Confirm overseas access to your funds with your home bank. Apply for a credit card and/or arrange sufficient funds.

Certified copies of your qualifications and certificates, ID cards, Drivers License, Birth Certificate (or certified copy).

This is a requirement for entry to Australia, so make sure you have your health cover policy arranged before you leave home.
