Because of your nationality or for other reasons (if you are a resident of the European Union, etc.) you will possibly be exempted from a visa. Please contact the French embassy or the French consulate of your country.
ThERE ARE TWo TyPES of viSAS:

• Long-stay visas (visas de long séjour) for stays longer than 90 days (up to 3 months): ask for a “Visa D – Etudiant – Carte de Séjour à solliciter dès l’arrivée en France”.
A long-stay visa affords temporary authorization for residence in France while you are waiting for a residence permit (carte de séjour).

You will have to travel by yourself in Nantes from the airport or the train station to the “Maison Des Eleves”. You have two solutions:
The more simple one but also the more expensive is to take a taxi as soon as you arrive and go straight to your student residence.
Time needed (from the airport to the “Maison Des Eleves”): between half an hour and an hour depending on the traffic.
Time needed (from train station to the “Maison Des Eleves”): between 20 min and an hour depending on the traffic.
The second solution is to use public transport.
Here is a note you can show to the taxi driver so that he brings you to your student residence:
« Je souhaite me rendre à la Maison Des Eleves de l’Ecole des Mines (adresse: 6 Avenue Augustin-Louis Cauchy,
Nantes). Je dois y arriver strictement pendant les horaires ouvrés de la résidence: de 9h à 11h30 ou de 14h à 16h.
Pensez-vous pouvoir m’y conduire sur ces horaires? Si ce n’est pas la cas, veuillez me conduire à l’hotel (voir p28)»*

If not could you drive me to the hotel (see page 28)?”
If you arrive at the airport you must take the airport shuttle and stop at Commerce. At Commerce you have to take the tramway line n°1 towards Beaujoire and stop at Beaujoire, the end of the line.
Finally you take either bus n°72 or 76 towards Gachet, your final stop for the school is Christian Pauc.
Time needed: 2 hours. This solution is difficult if you come with a lot of luggage.

Student associationsand clubsSince they are trained to elaborate projects, students are strongly encouraged to organise and take part in leisure activities, sporting events, business ventures and to support public initiatives.
Therefore there are numerous associations at the EMNantes set up and run by students.
The bDE (Bureau Des Eleves/Students’ Union) is an association run by students, and dealing with after-school activities. For instance it helps student teams find sponsors for their projects, or provide logistic support for some events.
Moreover the BDE supports all kinds of clubs at the students’ request:
The “Welcome company” This team of students is in charge of welcoming new foreign students and helping them integrate by organising parties and trips all year long.
The “Association Sportive” (AS/The sports club)This association edits the school’s sports magazine, and organises sporting events and competitions with other schools, etc.
“MiND”This association constitutes the students’ own company. It is run by ten students from the EMNantes and recruits volunteers to carry out projects requested by business companies. These projects are quite varied, ranging from the creation of web sites and databases to translations, company visits… As a matter of fact MiND provides good opportunities for students eager for professional experience.

Doctors [Docteurs]There are two main types of doctors in France: general practitioners and specialists. It costs 21 Euro to consult a general practitioner. The doctor will give you the necessary forms to fill in and send to your health insurance company for reimbursement.
Medicine [Médicaments]In France chemist’s shops [pharmacies] have the monopoly on the sales of medicine. Chemists are qualified to advise their customers on minor ailments.
In case of a more serious illness the doctor has to give you a prescription that you'll bring at the chemist’s. The chemist and/or the doctor will give you the necessary forms to fill in and send to your health insurance company for reimbursement.
To find a doctor or a dentist near your district, go to the following link:http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/trouverlesprofessionnels/index.do
