Security Matters Biobanks need to secure patient identifiable information preventing unauthorized access, but still allowing authorized users the ability to enter and search the records. BioStudies security data and feature access can be controlled by a users’ role and team. Assign access to individual users either at a whole project or sub-study level. Patient identifiable or sensitive data is encrypted in the database. BioStudies enables assignment of a security officer who can grant user access to specific information in the system.
Project Management Flexibility
BioStudies allows data to be integrated and accessed by project and study. Each project has an owner and associated team with different roles and data access. Projects can be based upon a particular sample collection, a specific research area, or an identified sample type or workflow. Projects can then be further divided into studies which can give a more granular or specific data view.

Sample Processing Workflows BioStudies allows you to keep track of your sample processing steps and data.
• Workflows define the activities as well as data to be collected after processing.
• Data transform utility delivers the appropriate run data to an instrument, and collects post-processing data.
• Instrument data files are stored as attachments to the processed samples for future review, while sample data is extracted and written in the appropriate records.
Consent Management Best-in-class consent management tools to deliver compliance within an organization.
• Supports a multiple consent environment.
• The context of each consent, including any opt-outs, are stored with the sample record.
• Patient consent forms can be stored either as redacted forms with wide-scale viewing permissions or as scanned originals.
• BioStudies security rules can restrict access to patient identifiable data for that project or study. The system can also be integrated directly with eConsent platforms.
Configuration and Integration BioStudies has been designed to be highly configurable and integrate data within a biobank.
• Screens, workflow, database schema, user security and reports are all configurable.
• Allows integration with other systems including Electronic Health Records (e.g. via HL7),
laboratory liquid handling platforms (e.g. using XML file transfer), email systems, and automated storage systems (e.g. Brooks StrataTM).
• Fully interoperable with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, making transfer for information to Excel, Word and Outlook a simple activity.
• Meta data can be stored in BioStudies as attachments, and also processed to upload new information into the system. BioStudies published API and Webservices interact directly with other enterprise applications.
Flexible Deployment Model BioStudies is offered as either a traditional perpetual license model, or as an annual subscription. It can be deployed locally, as a hosted application or as a service delivered with our offsite technology partners.

Research Sample Sharing BioStudies publishes samples available for research applications. Once granted access, external users are able to specify sample and donor characteristics as search criteria. Samples are made available for dispatch which records the destination, shipping method, date and time stamp and confirmation of receipt and optionally a required return date so that there is a complete chain of custody history for each sample provided by the biobank.
