8 CRAIGSLISTDO’S AND
DON’TS
Decorate for cheap—without gettingmurdered!
DO Stick it to the man (i.e. Ikea) andsnag a secondhand sofa on thecheap. Cheers to not dealing wi
bullshit Swedish directions!
DON’TWhen it comes to some things, you just shouldn’t opt for “used.”Don’t buy that mattress unlessyou can perform a Room Raiders-
esque black light test first to avoidunwanted bodily fluids on yo’furniture, ya feel us?
DO Need a roommate? There areplenty of other shockingly norm
people on the site looking forsomeone to split rent with too!We suggest you…uhh…actuallymeet them first, though. (Maybe
at Starbucks? Everyone becomefriends over Frappuccinos! )
DON’TNeed some action? Sorry, we
don’t condone Craigslist unlessyou also want to get Chlamydiaor killed.
DO Selling your old, outdated décois a great way to make a littleextra cash. After all, what’re
you really going to do with thatinflatable armchair from 1999?
DON’TOvercharging when selling yourold stuff is a total don’t. Go by thirule: If it’s furniture you inflate, itain’t worth more than eight. (Or
something like that.)
DOGo old school and utilize the buddsystem on your pick-up trips forsafety…and so you have someone help you carry that coffee table.
DON’TNever venture alone into anunknown apartment—no matterhow fabulous that $5 futon is.

MORGAN ODOM:CHAPTER LIFEVICE PRESIDENT,ALPHA XI DELTA
What are your contributions to
your sorority? In 2013 I was o ered the position of
Chapter Life Vice President, which is
my current position for the Beta Alpha
chapter. My job as Chapter Life includes
planning all of our date events and sister-
hood events, but—on a more serious note—I also side as our
risk management person.
How are you influential within your campus’s
Greek community?
Being as involved as I have been in Alpha Xi Delta has o ered
me a plethora of opportunities in Greek Life as a whole at
UT. As the coordinator of all of our date events, I get to planevents that my sisters choose who to bring to. I may be a little
partial to my own awesome date events, but I would denitely
say fratties want to attend them. I know I get asked to my own
date events so guys can guarantee their spot at our formal or
our infamous Crush.
What would members of your sorority say
about you?
If you ask the girls I have not only been so lucky to call my
sisters, but also my best friends, they will tell you I’m the crazy
girl that will wake them up in the middle of the night to ask
if they want to go to San Antonio just to get away from thestress of school. But regardless, I think they will unanimously
agree that I am probably one of the [people] most dedicated
and passionate about bettering not only our chapter, but Al-
pha Xi Delta nationally.
What advice would you give girls going through
rush?
BE YOURSELF. Every girl is nervous, but ultimately every-
one is placed in a sorority that they will t right in to! So
wear comfortable shoes, stay hydrated, and enjoy recruitment,
because in the end, the sisterhood will all be worth it!

exciting events that promote philanthropy
and sisterhood!
What’s your favorite part of being
in a sorority?
My favorite part of being is a sorority is the
unique friendships and experiences you share.
Essentially, it is my family away from home.
RANDRICK WASHINGTON:President, Phi Beta SigmaWhat are your contributions to
your fraternity?
I am currently the only member a part of
the Mu Rho chapter of my fraternity. I re-
chartered the chapter in the spring of 2012.

ROSHAN SHARMA:Secretary, Alpha Tau OmegaWhat are your contributions toour fraternity?
Other than serving as Pledge Class Presi-
ent, I was able to serve as Secretary for two
ears and create two philanthropic events for
ur chapter. One day while studying at a cof-
e shop, a woman next to me noticed I was
udying for medical school and we got to
lking. Her 5-year-old son, Cash, has a rare
isease called Galactosemia, and because this
such a rare disease, there is no cure. I imme-
iately wanted to help and decided to throw
bene
t concert in Cash’s name.
e event, oncert for Cash, would raise money to help
und research to nd a cure for Galactosemia.
With the help of my chapter, I booked a ven-
e, contracted ve bands, and made t-shirts. In
ur rst year we were able to raise over $3,000.
e second event I created for our chapter was
alled ATO World Cup. Both of these events
ontinue to be annual events.
How are you influential within yourcampus’s Greek community?
Joining ATO, I became heavily involved
in not only my fraternity, but all aspects of
Texas Tech. I served as a Senator for Student
Government, an Ambassador for the Rawls
College of Business, a Chancellor’s Ambas-
sador, and was selected into Mortarboard,
which honors the top 50 seniors at Texas
Tech University. Being a leader in these other
organizations has given me the opportunity
to step up for the Greek community.
What are your plans for your
chapter this year?
While our chapter currently sits somewhere
above 120 members, one of our main goals
every year is to recruit a solid pledge class in
the fall. Another top priority is Gatorfest, a
benet concert held in the streets of Lub-
bock that raises money for the Susan G. Ko-
men Foundation. In only three years, we have
raised over $30,000 for this foundation.
MICKEY BARTON:President, Zeta Tau AlphaWhat are your contributions to
your sorority?
I have served as Alumnae/Collegiate Rela-
tions Chairman, Ritual Chairman, and now
am lucky enough to be President. I have
learned so much from these experiences. Allmy sisters are such blessings.
How are you influential within your
campus’s Greek community?
Being president, I get to meet a lot of people
in the Greek community, and have a strong
relationship with advisors of both my own
sorority and the Panhellenic advisor. I also
am part of Order of Omega, and have as-
sisted with Greek Week and many other
activities they plan, which helps you meet
successful and driven members of the otherGreek groups, both men and women.
What would members of your
sorority say about you?
ey would say I am a good leader because
of my respect for them and others as well.
I respect them, and in turn, I have ea
respect over the years. I also know how
have a good time with all of them in a
sponsible way. I am a good communic
as well, which helps people understand
most inuential decisions. Sororities stru with change, and we have gone through
of it recently. I hope they would say it
been a little easier to get used to becaus
my leadership.
What are your plans for your

My plans for the sorority this year are,
and foremost, to work hard and recruit

As a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, I am highly
nvolved in all the di erent activities that we
o. One of the major roles I play in my so-
ority is raising awareness for breast cancer.
Coming from a family that has had many
women pass because of breast cancer, I am
ighly motivated to raise awareness and
make a di erence in the lives [of] many
oung women and men.
What would members of yourorority say about you?
One of the things I know they would say is
hat I am a loyal sister. In every situation and
osition that I am in, I make it a point to
reat others how I would like to be treated.
ey would also say that I love to be the cen-
er of attention and LOVE to make people
augh. e person the probably nds me the
unniest is myself. Ha!
What would you say is yourgreatest accomplishment?
I would have to say it is the simple fact of
who I am today. Not only graduating in 3
years with a 4.0, but also managing a full-
time job and a sorority while keeping a social
life as well as a family life. at would have
to be one of my greatest accomplishments.
What are your plans for your
chapter this year?
My plans for Zeta for the school year 2013-
2014 would be to raise money for our philan-thropy, breast cancer education and aware-
ness. And to make our pink-out events even
bigger and let the community know that they
can make a di erence in nding a cure!
What comes to mind when you
think of rush?
An OVERWHELMING feeling of joy! I
have the honor to meet many amazing girls
while bonding with my sisters and making
memories that will last a lifetime.
