The University of Nordland was granted university status as Norway’s 8th university on 1st January 2011.

The campus was established in 1985, and has continued to grow since then. The last expansion was finished in 2005, and includes a new and modern library. The university has an excellent location and learning facilities across the high north, making it an important institution for teaching and research with approximately 600 staff and 6,000 students in the region.

Mørkved, located 10 km east of Bodø’s city centre, is the centre of the university’s activities.

Bodø Graduate School of Business was founded in 1985, and since then more than 3,000 students have graduated from our business programme “Siviløkonom”.

With its 50,000 inhabitants, Bodø is Northern Norway’s second largest town situated north of the Arctic Circle. Here you can experience fascinating and contrasting seasons, from midnight sun in June to polar nights in December. Bodø boosts fantastic views of its surrounding mountains and fjords. You can go hiking, skiing or enjoy Saltstraumen, the strongest tidal current in the world. Bodø is a distinctive student town with a lively multicultural scene and night life.

MSc IN BUSINESS

This programme offers great future career prospects with graduates working both in the public and private sector. Many of our students have job offers before finishing the programme.

The course is designed to provide real world skills and targets particularly stu-dents who wish to undertake a business placement. The programme further pro-vides an important foundation for study towards a PhD at universities and colleges in Norway and abroad. The first semester consists of compulsory courses while in the second semester the students can choose from a range of elec-

tive courses (minors). Lectures serve as a major mode of delivery, with larger or smaller group exercises supplementing the courses. For some of the minors the language of instruction is Norwegian or a combination of Norwegian and English. In the third semester students specialise in their chosen field of studies (major) and participate in a required method course. In the fourth semester, students write their master thesis on a subject related to their chosen specialisation.

The business school offers majors in the following areas (availability is subject to change depending on interest and faculty resources):

Bodø Graduate School of Business

“The Business School has a lot to offer. Its local but also international cooperation makes it easier to find interesting research projects and get to know possible future employers.”

Coming from the Netherlands and having completed both my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Dutch Universities, the University of Nordland has a lot to offer.

The university is small and closely connected to society. A lot is happening in this dynamic Arctic region and the university has local but also international cooperation with businesses and governmental organisations. This makes it easier to find interesting and relevant research projects and get to know possible future employers.

As an international student I was surprised by the amount of nationalities you meet here in Bodø. Because Bodø and the university are not too big, you get the chance to meet a lot of different people. The environment is totally different from what I was used to in the Netherlands: Wild nature all around the city, being able to enjoy a variety of winter sports and of course the northern lights and the midnight sun. Although Bodø is remote, it is remarkably well connected to the rest of Europe.

Hin Hoarau Heemstra from the Netherlands: PhD at Bodø Graduate School of Business

“My studies gave me a great opportunity to meet and mix with students from all over the world. I enjoyed the academic life, nature and found the people of Northern Norway very likable.”

Karin came to Bodø as an exchange student because of its exotic location in the Arctic Circle. She enjoyed the academic life, nature and found the people of Northern Norway very likable. After finishing her bachelor degree in Switzerland she decided to go back to Bodø to study for a master at the Business School.

As part of the MSc programme in Sustainable Management, Karin spent one semester in St.Petersburg. After graduation she was offered a job as manager of Magic Ice Norway in Lofoten in Northern Norway. Magic Ice is Norway’s first ice bar and gallery where everything is made of crystal clear ice. Being an adventurous person she took the challenge and moved to Lofoten.

Karin Wigger from Switzerland: Master of Science in Sustainable Management
