NEWS STUDY CLUB NEWS Southern Endodontic Study Group A presentation of "Endodontic pharma- cology" by Dr. Sam V. Ilolroyd featured the annual meeting of the Southern Endo- dontic Study Group July 15-18 at Opry- land in Nashville. A panel discussion on practice manage- ment followed, with Drs. Peter McGarry, Charles Scott, James "Pate, and Wayne Mohorn as leading discussants. Social activities on July 17 featured a trip to the famed (}rand Ole ()pry and included a cocktail reception and cocktail jamboree. Elected new officers of the group were Dr. John Mills, chairman and president; Dr. Bill Harris, secretary-treasurer; and Dr. Peter McGarry, program chairman. Dr. Bill Powell, outgoing president, also served as local arrangements chairman. The group's 1982 meeting will be held at Amelia Island Plantation in Florida June 24-27. Dr. Lincoln R. Manson-Iting is scheduled to speak on "Panoramic radi- ology interpretation and differential diag- nosis of periapical lesions." Louis I. Grossman Study Club Dr. Walter Cunningham of San Fran- cisco discussed recent research and clinical findings in "The use of ultrasonic cleans- ing of ',he root canal system," at the November 19, 1981 meeting of Pennsyl- vania's Louis I. Grossman Study Club. At an earlier meeting this year, the Study Club had Dr. Charles F. Cox, as guest speaker, discuss the topic, "A micro- biological, radiographic and histological evaluation of experimentally induced pert- apical lesions in monkeys." Dr. Cox is director of the Oral Histology l,aboratory, University of Michigan. The meeting, held at Philadelphia's Bookbinder's Restaurant, October 1, 1981 was attended by 50 members, including ou:going president, Dr. Norman A. Din- nerman. Officers installed for 1981-82 were Drs. Louis E. Rossman, president; Robert T. Wilson, treasurer; Alan M. Barnett, secretary; and Jack S. Ginsberg, program chairman. Table clinic applications near deadline Members are invited to present table clinics at the AAE Annual Session in Phoenix, April 24, 1982, from 9:15 am to 12:15 pro. Information about applications can be found in the September and Octo- ber, 1981 issues of the Journal. Those interested are asked to fill out the request for application in the Journal and send them to Ms. Irma Kudo, Suite 830, 211 E Chicago ;Ave, Chicago, 60611. Applications must be received as soon as possible to facilitate making future plans. Tennessee Academy of Endodontists Dr. James E. Vaught, professor of gen- eral dentistry and director of the general practice residency at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Knoxville, addressed the annual meeting of the Tennessee Academy of Endodontists in Gatlingburg, Tenn. He presented an in- depth historical review of the general prac- tice residency at the university, discussed its current status, and reported on future pro}ections for the center. Reelected to office at the meeting were Dr. Milton Siskin, chairman, and Dr. William D. Powell, secretary-treasurer. Virginia State Academy of Endodontists The Virginia State Academy of Endo- dontics reports two meetings held recently this year by its membership. The meeting o11 Sept 19, 1981 was in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Virginia Dental :kssociation at Virginia Beach. Dr. James Burns, an oral pathologist at the Medical College of Virginia, conducted a program entitled, "Seeing, understanding and diag- nosing oral disease." Earlier, Academy members, along with their families and invited colleagues from West Virginia, had a summer educational program on ,June 25-28, 1981 at the Canaan Valley Resort Park in the Alleghe- ny Mountains of West Virginia. The program included a presentation on endodontic manpower in West Virginia and Virginia, by Drs. Arthur Skidmore and Marshall England; an evaluation of clinical experiences with the McSpadden 'Technique, by Dr. Wayne C, hristian, and a laboratory exercise by representatives of the R & R Company. I)r. Don Antrim's topic was "Endodontic surgery"; several audio visual programs were also available to members. The officers for the biennium are Drs. Jim Lance, president; AI Citron, presi- dent-elect; Bill Kemp, secretary-treasurer; John Holcomb, program chairman; and Kenneth Stavisky, immediate past presi- dent.

Dr. James E.
