    1.0 CONCEPT STATEMENT

    Description of Product

Study Hertz No More is designed specially to help students to improve their concentration

and energy level while studying. It is understood that students wants to excel academically

but there are too many factors imposing their concentration and attention while studying.

This device works like a wonder because it is able to prevent students from falling asleep

while they have to stick their faces to study diligently from boring academic books. Thisdevice is mobile that is attached to students ear; it is suitable to be worn at any times; in

their rooms, classes, lecture halls and libraries. Students falling asleep will generally nod

their head downwards, backwards or sideways. The device detects such movements to

trigger an alarm and a slight vibration to wake up the students. The vibration serves as a

massage to help blood circulation so that more oxygen is brought up to the students brain.

    Thus, refreshes the students mind.

    Intended Target Market consumers, businesses

    i. StudentsStudents want to excel in their academics but many faced difficulties in

concentrating to lectures in class. Same applies to students who want to revise their

studies. Unintentionally, they become tired and lose their concentration. Study

Hertz No More was designed specially to help students who have this problem. The

product only cost RM9.99. Therefore, it is affordable for students.

ii. School AdministratorsThe school administrator might see falling asleep in class as a serious illness in

school. They would want their students to pay full attention to their lecturers as

well. They might consider providing this device as a public facility to the students in

    class or in the library.

iii. Small BusinessesThis product can provide businesses to the marts in school and supermarket for

general purchases. The device will then also be purchasable by the parents for the

    students.

    Benefits of Product

Study Hertz No more is a product which is comfortable to wear by the users, as it is made

of soft and light silicon. Besides that, the device has a smart alarm system where the alarm

will increase slowly, emitting sounds which are soothing to the ear, yet refreshes the mind.

The product is also designed to be attractive to the young generations as it will be available

in a range of bright colours. Most of the students who cannot concentration in their studies

especially in the midnight will find this product useful because the device will not only

trigger an alarm but also vibrate to help massage the ears of the students. The slight

vibration will promote blood circulation around the ears which then will help blood

circulation around the head of the students thus bringing more oxygen to help refreshes the

    students minds.

How the Product / Service will be positioned

Study Hertz No More is a new innovation that has a special feature compared to other

competitors. Study Hertz No More comes up with a fresh idea to combine the idea of

Robotic Teacher Monitoring System and ISAFE Anti-Doze Driving Device as one of the best

recommended device to detect drivers while they start to doze-off.

Study Hertz No More is also a powerful device which helps students to overcome their badhabit, which is to sleep in the class or anywhere while they are studying. So, there will be no

way for students for not paying attention to the lecture. It is because the product will

automatically detect the movements of head downwards, backwards or sideways as a sign

that the students are falling asleep and then trigger an alarm and a slight vibration to wake

    up the students.

    2.0 PRIMARY RESEARCH

    2.1 EXPERTS INTERVIEW

    2.1.1 Q&A

Interviews are conducted among related field experts to help in understanding the company

product proposed. Ten experts of different occupational roles are involved in the operation

of this interview. They are students, lecturers, Biomedical Engineering students, Electrical

Engineering students and Software Engineering students. The interviews are documented as

    below.

    1. Name : Mr. Mohd HafiziOccupation : Master Student in Biomedical Engineering

Q1 : Do you think the idea is feasible?

A1 : Yes, students tend to fall asleep in class and it is a common scenario. This

product may be useful for so many others, not just students. But, this product may

not be accurate in detecting the head movement. Slight movement of the head

    might trigger the alarm.

Q2 : Do you suggest an alternative to detect that the students are falling asleep.

A2 : The device can calculate the heart beat rate of the students. When sleeping, theheart beat rate should be lower than the normal rate. For a normal athlete, his heart

beat rate is from the range of 60 beats per minute to 80 beats per minute.

Q3 : Can the heart beats be detected through the ears?

A3 : The beats will not be accurate, it is better to have the device attached to the

    neck.

Q4 : Provide any additional comments or suggestions you think might be helpful.

A4 : The device should be robust and reliable. It would be an extra point if the deviceis light and small.

    2. Name : Mr. Mohd AkmalOccupation : 4

thYear Degree Student in Biomedical Engineering

Q1 : Do you think the idea is feasible?

A1 : Yes, I like that the device can massage the head of the students and it looks

ergonomic. I think students would not mind wearing the device.

Q2 : Based on your expertise in Biomedical Engineering, what kind of alarm do you

think is suitable for the ears of a sleeping student?

A2 : The student will wake up in shock if the alarm is too loud and too sudden. The

alarm should slowly increase in volume and must not exceed the frequency of 2kHz.

Q3 : Provide any additional comments or suggestions you think might be helpful.

A3 : The device might hinder the hearing ability of the students when in lectures

because it covers up their ears. Well, one way to make it work, maybe the students

can wear the device only on one ear in lectures and both when studying alone.

Besides that, it is best if the device comes in different sizes.

Q1 : Do you think the idea is feasible?

A1 : This product I think is helpful for the students because of its mobility and

because of its ability to massage. Students will definitely feel less sleepy after

massage. I also think that this device can be used by anybody.

Q2 : Based on your expertise in Biomedical Engineering, do you think that the

students will feel annoyed after being awaken by the alarm?

A2 : The alarm can be annoying in a nice way. Yes, humans tend to get annoyed

easily when they are tired. Maybe the alarm can be replaced with music or song.

Q3 : Provide any additional comments or suggestions you think might be helpful.

A3 : The human ear is very sensitive, you need to convince the user that your device

is safe in order for them to purchase your product.

time for students who prepare their studies last minute.

Q2 : Based on your expertise in Electrical Engineering, can the device be made?

A2 : It is possible, the device has to be built with a component which can sense the

motion and then vibrates when the motion is applied.

Q3 : Is it possible to sell this product at RM9.99?

A3 : It is too cheap, the vibrator and sensor are expensive.

Q4 : Provide any additional comments or suggestions you think might be helpful.

A4 :It would be great if a timer could be set for the messaging function. Students

needs it eve before falling asleep. Besides, the vibration must not be too soft.

Q2 : Based on your expertise in Electrical Engineering, how do we ensure that the

motion is detected accurately?A2 : If you were to detect the motion of a nodding head, it will never be accurate

because everybodys sleep pattern is different. This device can cater to those who

will nod their heads when falling asleep on the table. How? Use a sensor which will

detect a certain speed of motion to trigger the alarm.

Q3 : Is it possible to sell this product at RM9.99?

A3 :I dont think so, at least RM50.

Q4 : Provide any additional comments or suggestions you think might be helpful.A4 : The device must not be too heavy.

2.1.2 Result Concluded From the Experts Interviews

Among all ten experts interviewed, the business idea seems to be feasible to be

marketed to the students. The experts think that the idea is new and are intrigue by thefunctions the device gives. It can be said that all ten experts gave positive feedbacks with a

few minor concerns during the interviews. When the Biomedical experts were asked, they

were concerned about the alarm the device gives off to the students ears. The human ears

are sensitive and may endanger life if the device is not properly built. The experts suggested

that the alarm should not go beyond the frequency of 2kHz. Besides, the alarm should go off

in an increasing volume so that the students will not wake up in shock.

Experts from the field of Electrical Engineering were asked in the interviews too. They were consulted to give advice regarding the electrical components used in the device.

As the device requires a motion sensor and a vibrator, they think that it is possible to build

the device in a mobile yet portable device for the human ear. The battery consumption

    wouldnt be high too.

We have also sought help from lecturers and students as they are the direct

consumers of the product. The lecturers think that the device will greatly help improve the

concentration of the students in their classes and will not disrupt the class operations.

Meanwhile, the students agree that they lose their focus in class when they are tired or

when the lecture activities are not interactive. Generally, they are happy to have the device

in the market. The students being youth are looking forward to more functions in the device

and would want a better appearance for the product.

    or-grad-or-professor/

The figure above shows the average time used on a weekday for full-time universityand college students during the traditional school years. The statistics were shown

for the year of 2005 to 2009. The pie chart depicts that a student uses half of the

time of the day for other activities besides sleeping and educational activities. This is

an average active lifestyle which explains why students are generally exhausted

during lectures. In the worst case scenario, students unintentionally fall asleep in

class given the classroom condition is bad or when lecture material is unattractive.

    3.4 MAIN DEVICE COMPONENT

    SQ-SEN-645B Bi-directional Tilt Sensor

The SQ-SEN-645B series acts like a position sensitive switch that is normally open when

vertical and normally closed below the switch angle. It is designed to be non-sensitive to

vibration in the vertical position. When at rest in a vertical position, the sensor will settle in

an open state. When tipped down from vertical to the "switch angle" it will produce

continuous on/off contact closures while in motion. When at rest below the switch angle it

    will settle normally closed.

    Functions

On / off tilt sensing Normally open when vertical Normally closed when below or between the switch angles Non-sensitive to vibration or lateral movement when open

    4.1 Summary

The report shows that Study Hertz No More generally has higher potential scores

in the most of the parts being broken in this first screen report. In terms of its business idea

strength, the potential it holds is rather high as the idea is vastly accepted by public. In the

industry-related issues section, we have a +1 score for high potential and a -1 score for low

potential. The justification to the scores being a tie is because; there are already quite a

number of competitors out there in the industry. However, the product is aiming towards a

bold and different direction than the rest of the competitors. The product will be targeted

towards the students with limited purchase capabilities while the others are targeted to the

drivers community. Though, their products do not seem popular among the drivers. In the

target market and customer-related issues part, the score gained a +2 for its high potential.

There is a huge gap in this field and it is still untapped in our country. When, interviewed,

the users seem to be excited about the idea and they see this product as a necessity in their

studies. In the Founder part on the other hand, also scored a tie for it high and low

potentials. This is because the team of founder are rather inexperienced and will need more

time to further enhance the analysis made. The last part, financial issues, gained a score of -

3 because no proper investigations are done in regards to the financial support needed to

    develop the business idea.
