American Cultureand Values Studying in the United States of America can be a wonderful learning experience. Both in and out of the classroom you will learn and practice the English language. You will also learn much about American life and its sometimes confusing culture.

It’s very important to know the value that shape U.S. American’s attitude and behaviour.

1. U.S. Society is made up of a diversity of ethic groups and cultures that have helped shape American values;

Equality - U.S. Americans uphold the ideal that everyone ”is created equal” and has the same rights.

Individuality - U.S. Americans are encouraged at an early age to be independent and to develop their own goals in life.

Privacy - U.S. Americans like their privacy and enjoy spending time alone. Foreign visitors will find their homes and offices open, but what is inside the American mind is considered to be private.

Informality - The U.S. American lifestyle is generally casual. You will see students going to class in shorts and t-shirts.

Achievement and Hard Work/Pay - The foreign visitor is often impressed at how achievement oriented Americans are and how hard they both work and play.

Direct and Assertive - U.S. Americans try to work out their differences face-to-face and without a mediator.

Time - U.S. Americans take pride in making the best use of their time.

2. Some individuals and groups have a set of respected values that are quite different from those of mainstream America;

3. People’s attitudes and behaviour are based on their values.

As you consider these values it is important to remember that:

Q. 1 : Why did you choose the USA for higher education?Ans : USA is the country that provides education with practically application and provides a different class of academics. With state of the art facilities, it is a dream come true to pursue MS here. Also, a MS degree in USA is globally accredited. Q. 2 : Where do you live? On-campus or off-campus and why?Ans : I live in off-campus. On-campus might give you a lot of exposure, but staying off-campus can give you a taste of how life will be in the next coming years. Also you will have the liberty to cook/learn other things to help you keep up with your studies.Q. 3 : Please share some of your experiences of the USA for aspiring students. (Culture and People)Ans : USA is one of the few countries that provide a lot of courses and majors to choose from. People here are down to earth. They make sure you settle down well once you reach in the USA. The culture is different and challenging to adapt, but once you strive to adapt, it is a wonderful place to be and beautiful people to know.Q. 4 : What's your advice to students who aspire to go to the USA for higher studies?Ans : People who really have interest in engineering can definitely come forward to pursue MS/PhD. Since MS/PhD allows you to narrow down your scope of interest, it keeps you settled in what you really want to know and where to implement. Also once you finish your degree, job opportunities don't knock the door, but when you give your best, getting a job is a cakewalk.Q. 5 : Other than academics, what else did you learn from the country USA?Ans: I learnt a lot. I had learnt being straight forward and be polite. I love the American food. It's a total different kind of experience. Following the rules and regulations here is an art. Definitely, I have learnt a lot.Q. 6 : How are the studies in the USA different than the studies in India?Ans: In India, education is implemented in a more textbook/theory manner. Here, when you study something, you can actually get to know what it really is. Though without Indian education, understanding concepts is really difficult. Thanks to my professors in India, they made sure I don't start from the scratch.

Q. 8 : How you find Credila different than other education loan lenders?

Q. 9 : Any experience you remember while applying for education loan?

Q. 10 : Do you think education loan helped you to pursue your higher studies? If yes, in what way it has changed your life.

Q. 11 : Do you suggest prospective students and parents to go for education loan? Why?

Q. 7 : Key things to remember for parents and students while planning for the studies in the USA?Ans : One thing I would like to say to all parents and students, USA is THE place to pursue your MS/PhD. Culture, academics, way of living, art of managing your personal interest, all can be well crafted here.

Ans : Credila helped me get my education loan in a quick and efficient manner. Also they had helped me send through wire transfer which not many banks do. But I too had a little bit of difficulties and quarrels, misunderstandings but helping someone pursue their interest is something anyone should appreciate.

Ans : A lot of good and bad experiences. It gave me an urge to pursue my higher studies, both mentally and financially. But a few things disappointed me which Credila could improve with their future customers.

Ans : Definitely, without education loan I would still be dreaming of pursuing MS, sitting in India running a code. Ha-ha. Thanks Credila.

Ans : I would ask parents who have big dreams in sending their students to USA for higher studies to take loans from Credila since it is just narrowed down for education loan purposes. It helps you move your process sooner, faster and safer.

American Education andthe I20 An US University can conditionally admit the student for a particular course based on various parameters, ranging from Standardized Test Scores (GRE, GMAT, etc) to Leadership Qualities. However, it does not release the official document confirming a students’ admission until and unless the student is able to demonstrate financial ability to pay for the first year of the course and continued funds to support the remaining years of education.

This official document of admission, also called the Form I20, is in fact a legal document tied to US Immigration Services. The I20 is not only the only proof of secured admission but also forms the basis of that student’s US student visa claim and attempt to enter the US for education. In a nutshell, if you don’t have an I20, you don’t go to the US for education.

“Demonstrating financial ability can be tr icky, espec ia l ly because only a few forms of documentary evidence are accepted by t h e US Un i ve r s i t y. A t y p i c a l I nd i an student has limited options – receive funding from the university in form of scholarships, waivers, etc that are extremely difficult to secure OR document fami ly funds OR obtain an education loan. “Credila loan approval letter was one of the important financial docs which I was holding to get I20”, said Suraj T., studying in SUNY at Buffalo, USA.”

Another student Ajin N. who obtained education loan from Credila and studying in University of Illinois at Chicago, USA said, “Credila gave me the liquidity to go ahead with the fees payment. So the embassy was happy with loan approval letter and the way of funding for my course”.

It boiled down to costs. I am saving some money on accommodation.Q. 4 : Please share some of your experiences of the USA for aspiring students. (Culture and People)Ans : Culture is different certainly. If you haven't interacted with people outside your country it may be a culture shock to you. Q. 5 : What's your advice to students who aspire to go to the USA for higher studies?Ans : Network really well, be it education forums, Facebook. Q. 4 : What are your key concerns you have as parents of son/daughter who wants to pursue higher education?Ans : My main concern is about the culture shock that my son will face in the USA. Our children are from a sheltered background & the society there is pretty open.

Q. 5 : Key things to remember for parents and students while planning for the studies in the USA.Ans : Pl prepare for strange food habits, extreme climate conditions, different language dialects etc.

Q. 6 : How you find Credila different than other education loan lenders?Ans : In Credila I found a simple process with very little formalities - believe it I never had to visit the CREDILLA office even once. The process is clear, extremely transparent & very easy. The Executives who handled my son's case were extremely polite, efficient & helpful. I never thought about looking elsewhere.

Q. 7 : Please share some of the problems you faced as the parents and how you overcome those.Ans : Some issues that we faced were getting admission in a good college, the VISA process, getting the I20 & so on.

Q. 8 : Do you think education loan helped you to send your son / daughter to USA for higher studies? If yes, in what way it has made the difference.Ans : Of course, “the loan from Credila helped us bridge the gap between our money & the actual requirement of funds. Compare Study in Indiaagainst study abroad? The first difference which is most visible in today's environment is the exposure a student gets when he studies abroad versus in India. Exposure as the team means is visibility – visibility into a new culture, new environment, new surroundings, new set of people, new education system, new campus the list is endless. This is by far the biggest and most visible difference. Some people may raise the question as to why is it important to understand another country's culture and environment, without focusing on our own? Valid question and the answer is, with expanding horizons, improved economic conditions, technological advancement, countries are slowly losing boundaries and merging into global markets. As the student completes his education and steps into a workplace, the better companies work as global conglomerates and the advantage of understanding two different countries, i.e. India and one more, becomes and added advantage.

Secondly, the education system itself is crafted and created to ensure that students get the best out of the curriculum. Vast libraries and reference material help the student to refer and learn better. In some universities, student can opt for additional coaching in preferred subjects. The options of subjects within courses give students the freedom to pick his or her choice of subjects. The campuses and the facilities provide the student with a healthy multi-cultural experience.

Finally, it is the preferential treatment which a candidate from a foreign university receives in the job market. Most companies evaluate prospective employees from the perspective of academic soundness but more importantly on the basis of his or her interpersonal and team play skills. A student who has studied abroad has mastered interpersonal skills to some extent and by living amongst students from various races, has already been groomed to be a good team person.

Even if they are in the same country, staying with you, the quality time you get to spend with them becomes extremely limited as they grow up. However, if they are studying abroad, the closeness actually increases as long as you are supportive and non-judgmental. By discussing your child's issues and giving some non-judgemental feedback the distance is shortened and your relationship strengthens.

At the end of the academic year, as parents you get to experience the joy of knowing that your ward has been successful in a program in a global environment and is ready to embark on a career which is the best suited option available.

Parent's advice whose children have gone abroad for higher studies Giving a child an education abroad is giving him the freedom to be b himself, to be independent, to understand the pangs of loneliness and value his home. It is also a time for him or her to prepare for the future – a future where as parents, we may not be there. Children, who go abroad, learn to appreciate two different cultures, countries, opportunities, friends, but no one can separate a child from his family.

The student who studies abroad, will return home, better educated and maybe equipped to live an independent life, but with the same affection for the parents. Thus, parents who send children abroad are teaching them to stand on their own feet, fight their own battles. By setting them free, parents are showing these students that they trust their children and they know that they can fight lives battles. This is in fact an invaluable lesson in keeping the family together in the right way.

The internet, webcam, online chat and emails have virtually shrunk the world and communication is almost instantaneous. When a student goes to college, even in the same country, he or she is away from home for several hours attending classes. This can be followed by some social, sports or extracurricular activities all of which when added means that as parents, you see your child in the morning and again in the evening or nights. During the time the student is at home, he or she will be busy with her own activities – talking to friends, studying or just relaxing. Hence it is not that, by sending your ward abroad you are going to be denied time with your child.

Just try and adjust with the culture, the climate and the food out there. Concentrate on your study which is the important part that you have to do and for that only you are going abroad. Be committed towards the study. Father of Rohit R. studying in University of Utha, USA

Q. 5 : Key things to remember for parents and students while planning for the abroad studies.

Q. 6 : How you find Credila different than other education loan lenders

Ans : English language, different culture, discipline, self-reliant, earning skill and responsibility.

Ans : Financial support for any middle class people, Ward should not suffer for want of fund. Secondly to Study well and come out successfully.

Ans : As parent you have to give your financial support whenever needed. As student minimise expenditure, Try to get part time employment or GA and also fees waiver which is very important.

Q. 7 : Please share some of the problems you faced as the parents and how you overcome those. Ans : Credila is processing the loan quickly when compared to other financial insts. Provided the docs as required by them is submitted intact.

Q. 8 : Do you think education loan helped you to send your son / daughter to USA for higher studies? If yes, in what way it has made the difference. Ans : Credila have disbursed the first instalment loan as per their commitment. Afterwards I have not faced any problem. And not approached for second instalment as my son has obtained his GA and Fees waiver from the University which is sufficient for his course completion. I was having 50% of funding once I obtained the University admission letter. Then the Credila loan sanction letter supported us to get clearance from the University for financial requirement support for the student.

Q. 9 : Do you suggest prospective students and parents to go for education loan? Why? Ans : Well, if own funding is there, it is good. Otherwise loan only is a support which you can go depending on your repayment capacity. Loan interest and principal repayment provides IT exemptions for parents if they pay simultaneously or for student if they pay the loan interest and principal at a later date after entering employment

Q. 11 : Did you visit your son/daughter abroad? Please share your experience. What changes you noticed in your son/daughter.Ans : I have not visited my son's place or university. But I noticed a drastic change in his English language speaking style, family bonding, feeling a sense responsibility and his confidence to manage the situation in abroad in one year and when I met him in the second year in Canada during my personal visit to my daughter's place where he joined with me a for couple of days and updated the current scope in his education and his future planning. We all thrilled and advised him to go ahead and to come out successfully.
