To be eligible for the NUCARS, Denmark, students must: • Have successfully completed at least one semester atNorthwood University and have completed any prerequisiterequirements • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 or above. NOTE: Students on academic or disciplinary probation are not eligiblefor study abroad programs. Students must be in good academicstanding during the program itself. If students are in goodstanding when they apply for exchange programs, but are put onacademic or disciplinary probation between the time ofapplication and the starting date of the program, the studentbecomes ineligible to participate in the exchange.

Northwood University Computerized Automotive Retail Simulation (NUCARS) is amanagement training game that puts the automotive students as close to reality aspossible in an academic environment. The simulation challenges student teams to copewith real life dilemmas in automotive dealership operations. Students will work withteammates and reflect on today’s management philosophy. Team members come froma number international universities as well as cultural and language backgrounds –requiring a higher level of understanding and cooperation to accomplish goals. NUCARS 2018 will be hosted by Business Academy Aarhus, University of AppliedSciences in the beautiful city of Aarhus, Denmark. Aarhus is the second largest city inDenmark with a population of more than 320,000, where around 20% are students - soit’s a very young city. It’s situated by the seaside with lovely beaches and beautifulforests close by, and it offers a wide variety of sporting, outdoor and cultural activities. Students who apply and are accepted to the program will receive credit for AM 3850:NUCARS (which can be substituted for an AM. Business, or General elective) and willearn 3 hours of credit for successfully participating in the program and fulfilling courserequirements. Tuition for this course is included with the cost of the program. Studentswill need to see an academic advisor in order to complete their course substitution form. Travel will be from April 7-14 2018. Therewill be classes help prior to the travel andcourse work after the travel period.Students would need to complete andsubmit their pre and post course work toProf. Bright. A detailed course syllabus willbe sent to students accepted for theprogram. Program: Beside the simulation game(Stratsim), we plan a full week of activitiesincluding: Visit of a car dealership /Invitation of external guest speakers/ Visitto cultural institutions in Aarhus and muchmore. All participants will receivecertificate of completion for the program.

Travel

All Northwood students participating in this program will depart from and return to the US asa group. Roundtrip airfare from the US to DenMark is part of the program fee, andNorthwood University will purchase air tickets for each student participating in the program.You should NOT purchase your own airline. Note that individual students are responsible forgetting to and from the departing airport. You must have a valid passport to participate in this program. Obtaining a passport is YOURresponsibility. If you have not started the process, do it now.****You MUST have your passport in hand on or before Feb 1, 2018. ****You must confirm receipt of your passport to the International Programs office. Those who do not hold American citizenship should check with the International ProgramsOffice ([email protected]), about the need for a visa to travel to these Europeancountries.

Dress Code : The dress code varies. You willwant to have casual, business casual andbusiness professional. One business suitwould be necessary. NOTE:When traveling abroad, flexibility is important.Sometimes plans need to be adjusted, so theschedule is subject to change. Students whoare accepted into the program will receive anumber of updates with more specific detailsregarding travel and the program. There will besome free time built into the schedule so thatstudents may explore on their own.

Safety and Security

Safety is a prime concern of all who are involved in study abroad ventures –

participants, their families, advisors, administrators, hosts, etc. Though it is

impossible to eliminate all risk from study abroad, Western Europe is generally quite

safe. As with any traveling situation, common sense and a few precautions are in

order. During any free time, students should travel together in small groups.

Students should also take caution to protect their valuables, including wallets, purses

and passports.

Northwood University generally: Cannot eliminate all risks from thestudy abroad environments. Cannot monitor or control all of thedaily personal decisions, choices, andactivities of individual participants. Cannot prevent participants fromengaging in illegal, dangerous or unwiseactivities. Cannot assure that U.S. standards ofdue process apply in overseas legalproceedings or provide or pay for legalrepresentation for participants. Students and parents should: Read and carefully consider allmaterials issued by NorthwoodUniversity that relate to safety, health,legal, environmental, political, cultural,and religious conditions in hostcountries.

Consider their health and otherpersonal circumstances when applyingfor or accepting a place in the program. Make available to the sponsor anypersonal data that is necessary inplanning for a safe and healthy StudyAbroad experience. Assume responsibility for all theelements necessary for their personalpreparation for the program andparticipate fully in class sessions andorientations. Privately obtain and maintainappropriate insurance coverage foroverseas travel and abide by anyconditions imposed by the carriers

In study abroad, as in other settings,

participants can have a major impact on

their own health and safety abroad through

the decisions they make before and during

the program and by their day-to-day choices

and behaviors.

In the event of an emergency, the

Northwood Program Leader will be with the

group on all planned excursions and

available throughout the program; and will

be in regular contact with staff at

Northwood University. It is also important

for students to keep in regular contact with

their families during travel abroad.

Costs and Scholarships

The cost for the program is $5300 per person, which includes tuition for 3 hours of

academic credit. The payment schedule for the program is as follows:

$500 deposit due with the application

Balance of $4800 due on Feb 23, 2018

Financial balances must be paid in full before departure.

The program fee includes:

Tuition for 3 credit hours

Round trip airfare to Denmark and all planned domestic travel

All rooming accommodations

Transportation and entry tickets to all activities and venues

All groups meals (all breakfast and lunch will be included along with some dinners)

Travel emergency and international insurance

The fee does not include:

Travel to and from the U.S. airport for departure and upon arrival back in the U.S.

Individual lunches and dinners

All activities and travel not listed above (personal travel – taxis etc.)

Personal expenses such as souvenirs, meals, clothing, etc.

Scholarships: There are Northwood University Study Abroad Scholarships available for the

NUCARS program. All accepted students are eligible for these scholarships, which are

based on academic merit and/or need. Students who wish to be considered for either

category of scholarship MUST fill out the attached scholarship application by the deadline

date.

We will make every effort to support your application but it should be noted that not all

applications can be funded. No awards can be considered without a completed program

application.

Please note that there is no fixed award for any of these scholarships, and any scholarship

awarded will cover only a portion of the study abroad program cost.

2. The nomination form (to be completed and sent in by a Northwood faculty member,

other than the leading faculty)

3. A course substitution form (you need to approach an academic advisor in completing

this form)

4. Deposit (paid to the business office)

The scholarship form is optional .

The number of participants for this program will be capped at 10. If the number of

applications exceeds spaces, a waiting list will be maintained. Upon notification of your

acceptance to the program, you must return an acceptance form.

Study abroad scholarship policy

Please note the study abroad scholarship policy now in effect for the 2017-18 academic year: 1. All study abroad scholarship requests must be made in writing to via e-mail to: [email protected] The request should include: student’s full name, student ID and the name of the specific program to which the student is applying, and a brief (no more than 1 page) statement of financial need (any information that would demonstrate need). 2. Students must have a complete program application on file (including the faculty reference form and course substitution form) in order to be considered for a scholarship. Students who do not have a complete application on file will be notified that their request is pending until the application is complete. 3. Scholarship applications must be received by the published application deadline for the specific program. Scholarship requests for specific programs will be reviewed by the study abroad scholarship committee immediately following the published application deadline for that program. The Director of International Education will then communicate the committee’s decision to the applicant. 4. Scholarship requests are based solely on financial need. There is no fixed amount per scholarship award. Any scholarship awards are intended to assist students with the cost of study abroad, but will not cover the entire cost of any program. 5. Scholarship funds, if awarded, are credited to the student’s university account. Scholarship funds cannot be used as cash or to support cash expenses for a study abroad program.
