    A Clear Gospel

He gave himself for our sins In this He completed G-d's will and Delivered us from the present evil age That is, if you pass the test

"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him

who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning toa different gospel not that there is another one, butthere are some who trouble you and want to distort thegospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heavenshould preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we

preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have saidbefore, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to youa gospel contrary to the one you received, let him beaccursed. For am I now seeking the approval of man, orof God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were stilltrying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ."(Galatians 1:6-10 ESV)

    Paul's Authority

There is a need to test a speaker against the

Gospel True Apostle defined as receiving your

Mission directly from Jesus, in person. Some in Galatia were trying to discredit

Paul's preaching, and thus, his authority

    2 Uses of Authority

Leaders who do not exercise their authority =

    Corinth, produces apathy, compromise and

division Leaders who utilize their authority for

absolute control = Galatia, slavery which

decapitates faith & love Must combine authority with accountability

    2:15-21

Jews are the children of G-d while Gentiles are sinners But Christians know that salvation is only through a

belief in Jesus Christ, not works. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. (Psalm 143:2

NIV) The only way to live is in the participation in the death

of Christ and in the resurrection unto life.

    3:1-6

    Paul had clearly painted the

    picture of Christ crucified

and the power therein Pitting the actions/work

against those of faith/belief Have your experiences with

miracles been in vain thatyou still believe the law to

be the dictator of our lives?

    3:10-13

Establishing that no one can be justified by

the law Thus it becomes a curse to us The cross then becomes our blessing, for on

it our curse was nailed! Jesus bore our shame by being crucified

    A Trust

The last will in testament Has a promise of those assets to be passed

onto to the beneficiaries at the appointed time Does not go into effect until the date of

execution Does not come to completion until the passing

    of the Trustor >> Irrevocable

  • 8/2/2019 Study of the Epistle to the Galatians

    2:17-21

What was the asset of theTrust? "The Promises"

    What is the effective date?

Put into effect with Abraham Who is the Trustor? "G-d" Who is the beneficiary?

"Christ, the Son of G-d" When do the beneficiaries

receive the assets? "After thedeath of the Trustor"

    3:23-29

The law was then a necessary tool until the Christ was come,

something to keep humanity in line so as not to lose complete

connection with G-d, it kept us. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a

guardian. (Galatians 3:25 NIV) Therefore we are united with Christ as heirs to the promise

through our faith in Him. As surely as the law does not provide miracles, our belief in

Him miraculously provides access to the promises made to

    Abraham.

    Galatians 4:1-7

It's all a timing thing The law was our guardian until we were able to mature

enough to receive our inheritance This Jesus was revealed at the appointed time Becoming one in Christ we retain His Holy Spirit that makes

us sons of G-d ("Abba" implies an intimacy with G-d)

and brings us into the liberty in Jesus no longer slaves to

the law -- a New Covenant

    Review

Why was Paul writing to the Ephesians? What is Paul's testimony? Why did Paul rebuke Peter? What was the purpose of the Law [of Moses]? What kind of document does Paul use to

    explain the promises of G-d?

    The story of Hagar &

Sarah Hagar was the Bondservant of Sarah (Earthly Jerusalem) Sarah was the free woman (Heavenly Jerusalem) Ishmael was born to Hagar as a slave Isaac born free to Sarah Ironically the Israelites are the descendants of Isaac and were

meant to be free Instead they remain bound by the law as Ishmael Whose child do you want to be?

    Galatians 5 (Key Verses)

1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then,

and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of

slavery. 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep

you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does

not come from the one who calls you. 9 "A little yeast works

through the whole batch of dough." 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:

"Love your neighbor as yourself." 15 If you bite and devour

each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

    Galatians 6 (Key Verses)

1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin,you who live by the Spirit should restore that persongently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be

    tempted.

9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at theproper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

12 Those who want to impress people by means of theflesh are trying to compel you to be circumcised. Theonly reason they do this is to avoid being persecutedfor the cross of Christ.
